    D&D 4E 4e Eberron Changes

Technically, the only changes are to define the place of Eladrin and Dragonborn in Eberron, and to revise the scale of the map (it used to be WAY too big). The bit about d'marks... only kinda. The dragonmark feats don't have racial prerequisites, but there's a sidebar and several short sections...

    I don't DM 4th edition, but when I do

Of course. But there's a difference between vicarious unhappiness, as you put it, and aiming to cause the player unhappiness. Having fun can mean being sad - there's a reason sad movies sell. But people don't go to movies and see things that are targeted at making them, specifically, sad - they...

    I don't DM 4th edition, but when I do

I agree. Ideally, a +1 magic item would be it - maybe +2, tops. Taking magic items out of the expected math is in fact on my 5e wishlist. But the fact is, for at least the last 11 to 12 years, there has been an expected math by level that has been assumed for monsters which included minimum...

    I don't DM 4th edition, but when I do

That's where we're different, Jawsh. I'm fine with all that happening to the character. If it steps out into RL, and the player starts acting like that? it's gone too far - I'd consider that a breach of my side of the "social contract". IMO, best to nip situations like that in the bud. It's...

Of all the complaints about 3.x systems... do you people actually allow this stuff ?

Another possibility is to space extended rests narratively; which is to say, either put an encounter "quota" in effect (only take an extended rest after x encounters), or only allow them at planned points throughout the adventure, as per required by the story or by the combat pacing.

    I don't DM 4th edition, but when I do

Also, there is a ten level difference between when a +1 item is expected per the math and when a +3 item is expected. That is a major loss. We're talking losing out on +2 to attack (the equivalent of being constantly marked, by everything), +2 damage (not too much of a loss, admittedly, but that...

    Username Color?

The problem there is that the subscription color then overrides it - your silver, for example. I had that problem when I first picked the color up, as a matter of fact.

    Username Color?

I had a username color change in effect when my subscription lapsed... now my name isn't the blue I had chosen. Do those have a limit on how long thay last? If not, how can I get the color reset? Part of the reason I had gotten a sub was for the gold to get that...

    I don't DM 4th edition, but when I do

In the middle of a dungeon, possibly with time pressure, it could be "what would you like to swap that magic sword for after the important parts of this adventure?" You can still screw over PCs. Now they just have a means to bounce back after you've had your way with them. ;)

    D&D 5E (2014) Please un-NERF Magic Items in 5e

Ideally, for me anyways, they'd be a player customization outlet as much as DM handout. Bought treasure (which would have no markup comparatively to found treasure) could just as easily be special training or naturally developed skills as an enchanted item, while treasure given out could be...

    D&D 4E Pen and Paper 4e

I don't use them at all. I run Linux on my home computers, so no silverlight. I also like to houserule and/or use homebrew or 3pp material. Making a character without the tools is really easy. I can fit a whole character on half a page, and the longest things are choosing a feat and purchasing...

    Class Balance - why?

In that case, I'm not sure most of your examples follow through. In chess, each side as as whole is balanced, because they have the same pieces; each soccer team is balanced because they have the same number of players in the same positions; et cetera. Player skill is not at question here; of...

    Class Balance - why?

I'm not sure I follow what you're saying, Hassassin - Tony Vargas is saying a very D&D mechanic (class) is important, not that something from another game is... Unless you're saying mechanical balance is a feature of other games that D&D doesn't necessarily need. Is that what you're getting at?

Size of Eberron's Electric Rail cars

There is a lightning rail featured in the 3e adventure Whispers of the Vampire's Blade. The cars in that are 25 feet wide, with a 5 foot walkway the entire way around, for a total of 35 feet; and about 60 feet long. Think of them less like actual train cars, which I'm sure have design...

    Class Balance - why?

I think the disconnect re: Fighter encounter/dailies is tied to how the person reading them thinks of ablities. People who like them are more likely to view the game as if it's a story, complete with scenes and acts and so on. You see "Encounter" and "daily" powers in movies all the time - my...

    ZEITGEIST Siberys' Zeitgeist Story Hour

Ierichon Zachariya was supposed to be a Russiany sounding Jericho Zacharia. Ekin Aoifei I believe is based on some Turkish words. With Dhuiyetegheyilk, the player wanted to name the companion "Dwight" which didn't seem fey enough, so I suggested Dwight be a nickname based on a fuller, more...

    ZEITGEIST Siberys' Zeitgeist Story Hour

Well, I'm already a fair bit of the way into the first adventure, but I now have a site up with a story hour for my Zeitgeist game. A new game is tomorrow, so I anticipate another entry here soon. The Constables Here I describe each PC, as well as provide their stat blocks and contacts. The...

No candy for fun; and bring back the absolute

See, though, that's borne of a misunderstanding of what scaling DCs represent. It's not that everything scales - it's that the PCs are facing more difficult challenges. That DC 10 wall they climbed at level 1 will still be DC 10 at level 30, but the PCs will now have just as easy a time with the...

    Class Balance - why?

(A note; I skimmed the thread, sorry. If this has been said already... well, consider this a +1, then) IMV, class balance is important because D&D is a game. Given a particular level, any character of any class should be on roughly equal footing, because otherwise gameplay will suffer. If you...
