No candy for fun; and bring back the absolute

Re: Relative values; The problem is, even if you understand that, Walking Dad, the end result is just number inflation. A DM is more likely to use things of an appropriate level than they are things severely off-of-level, so the end result is DC 15+modifiers vs. a skill check of +5+modifiers...

No candy for fun; and bring back the absolute

We did cut-and-run, but this dragon was part of a minor sidequest - we likely won't return, and not 'cause we think we can't take it. :/ That's all beside my point, though. What I'm getting at is that increasing numbers in RPGs is all smoke and mirrors, regardless of system. As your level goes...

No candy for fun; and bring back the absolute

See, though, scaling values is not something invented for 4e. It's in 3e definitely; it's just obscured because of the mess of numbers you had to deal with. I played a PF session recently where we couldn't hit a dragon only a few levels above us precisely because of this - and let me tell you...

How does EN Publishing feel WotC announcement?

Oh, I certainly would want you to keep going with the 4e one. I'm not interested in switching ruleset midstream, or especially as late in a game as after the ninth adventure.

Bring Back Verisimilitude, add in More Excitement!

I really don't think we'd need rules for 'fire attacks catch stuff on fire'. I mean, it's certainly not realistic. I could easily get burned by fire but not catch at all. If an attack says it catches something on fire (explicitly, or implicitly with something like ongoing fire damage), then it...

    Dear Mike & Monte

I don't want rules, rules, rules - except for combat. I don't want needless redundancy (see: the existing power system) Refluffing should be an important part of the game - as long as the fluff can fit, it should be usable! I don't want RP-only effects (craft, profession, certain feats, et...

    ZEITGEIST Githzerai in Zeitgeist

Well, now I feel dumb. :| I actually really like the gurkha idea. As long as the player developed some cultural details and the typical reactions of a Risuri/Danoran/&c, I don't think it would matter if it were a full-on githzerai or just an exotic human culture.

    ZEITGEIST Githzerai in Zeitgeist

I have a player running with Githzerai stats, but story-wise he's just a human. Just have it represent his particular talents (whether derived from special training or not) and it should work out fine.

    ZEITGEIST Zeitgeist deities?

The Eladrin Goddess is Srassama; she's part of a nondefined pantheon. then there's the Clergy, and the folk religions of Risur et al. Danor is agnostic to atheistic, and Drakr seems to care more about philosophy than religion (you can use divine classes with that pretty easily, though). In...

    Eladrin, why?

This isn't that odd considering other fantasy properties, either. Frex, take the Elder Scrolls series of video games. Those have Altmer (High Elves, good with magic), Bosmer (wood elves, natury archers), and Dunmer (Dark elves, sorcerers, though these are more fire and less spiders). As I...

    21st Century EN World

Yeah, now the FB app works admirably. Very nice!

    21st Century EN World

I should be more specific... If I go into forum view, and click on, say, EN publishing, most of the threads there can't be viewed. :/

    21st Century EN World

The FB app doesn't quite seem to be working - I can't view threads, frex.

    What's Up With D&D? for Monday, 12 December 2011

    I find this entirely unsurprising.

    Ftl- wtf?

"3000 times less", I always understood anyways, was the same as a saying "one three-thousandth"... I mean, division can be written as multiplying by the divisor's reciprocal, right? 1/2 is the same as 1*.5; 400/8 is the same as 400*.125... so on and so forth.

    Wolf Companion Build

That's why I suggested building the 'ranger' as a warlord - it's stuff is made to play nice with another character with its own actions. The BMR? Not so much. That said, if you wanna try it, by all means, go for it. It won't work too badly - you'll have some wonkiness with the interactions...

    Wolf Companion Build

Yes, that is the thread to which I was referring. The fey beast tamer works very similarly to the HotFK sentinel druid, so I don't think it will actually help you with what you're trying to do. In the case of what you seem to want to do... Don't build the companion ranger as a beastmaster, or...

    Wolf Companion Build

Sorry to pry, but do you also post on the Wizards boards? I vaguely recall seeing this over there last week. On to the mechanics... I think you're missing the point of the companion creatures. Those are class features of the druid and ranger; they're structured differently because the druid is...

    CB and MB on Ubuntu?

Ditto; I use Ubuntu just about exclusively, and I can't use either the CB or the MB.
