Ayup. Irks the hell out of me when that happens.

Forked Thread: Hybrid classes (4e playtest)

Apparently, paragon multiclassers don't get a 16th-level benefit. Huh. (Although, for strict accuracy, it's usually a situational benefit instead of a per-encounter ability--"when you're bloodied", "when you make an attack vs. Will", "when you push an enemy", et cetera.)

Forked Thread: Hybrid classes (4e playtest)

To elaborate: you can opt to multiclass even further at paragon level instead of taking a Paragon Path. Where you would usually get a number of benefits at level 11, you can choose to replace one of your at-will powers with one from your multiclass; Where you would get a number of other...

    MM2 Excerpt: Remorahz

If they get hot enough to kill you on contact in the frozen tundra, I think they'd spontaneously melt if you transported one anywhere much hotter. Rather like a polar bear: sure, a thick coat of very heat-retaining fur is great in the tundra, but that doesn't mean it's a good fit for the heart...

Flavor Mish-mash and favored classes (what 4e got wrong)

I think I agree with you. Of course, the cultural/biological issue is seriously muddled by the heritable nature of most magic and by the deep Lamarckian vein generally underlying D&D evolution. A hypothetical: gnomes make good feylocks, so they make pacts with elder fey... which pushes their...

Flavor Mish-mash and favored classes (what 4e got wrong)

Reincarnating former angel-servants of the gods who personally made pacts with the most powerful spirits of the world in order to assume mortal form here ... make good shamans. You're mistaken, and the reasons why have already been explained. You have half of a point there. But only half...

Flavor Mish-mash and favored classes (what 4e got wrong)

Said before, bears repeating: The high elves? Gray elves? Silvanesti, Qualinesti, whatever else? Fighter/Magic-users? Top-notch arcanists? We call them "eladrin" now! And eladrin do make quality wizards. And all manner of sword-wielding magic users. So... yeah.

    PH3 Playtest Race: Wilden

Except we already know that they're playtesting a new race from PHB3 this month.

    Speculation -- next Friday's PH3 Playtest?

You say "near-total" because you know they're in the MM2, right? Why would monkey people need a playtest?

    Arcane Power- Wizards Stretched Thin

Finally. Okay, first off: there's only the one new at-will, Eyes of the Vestige, but it is super awesome. The Vestige Pact Warlock can be found here, so I'm not going to go into much more detail on that. There are new powers for every pact so far, including Dark, at essentially every level...

So, any consensus on PHB2 powerhouses?

And, conversely, that barbarians work best when they're actually another class multiclassing for barbarian powers. Shamans, I am told, are tricky to get the hang of; ditto wildshape-specialist druids.

    What monsters really know?

Whenever you affect a creature with a power, that creature knows exactly what you’ve done to it and what conditions you’ve imposed. Deflecting Thunder does nothing to the target other than deal damage. It has an effect that deflects the next attack anyone makes against you, but you are not...

    Speculation -- next Friday's PH3 Playtest?

Hey, I was just trying to summarize the actual text. Did I do that incorrectly? In general, these traits and powers are provided to help Dungeon Masters create nonplayer characters (NPCs). This information can also be used as guidelines for creating player character (PC) versions of these...

    Speculation -- next Friday's PH3 Playtest?

"The oversized weapons thing" wasn't that complicated (you know pretty much all of this already, I'm just providing background): 1. When the Monster Manual came out, they included some extra races in the back of the book. As a stopgap measure, so you could have Bugbear NPCs and so forth before...

    Speculation -- next Friday's PH3 Playtest?

Not in 4e, unless I'm crazy. If you're talking about an earlier edition, I'm afraid I'm missing your point entirely.

    4e Adventure Design Question

Not too much higher, though. At [party level + 5] and above, your party may well end up missing literally all the time while the enemy hits literally all the time--and that's not terribly fun.

    MM2 Excerpt: Adamantine Dragon

Starspawn? Dragonspawn? Where do you get that connection? [this spot reserved for a quizzical emoticon that doesn't ERIC'S GRANDMOTHER, unlike the one we have here] And the Iago reference just sold me on the monster, even though I don't actually like it much otherwise (rabid 4e fanboy talking...

    Best 1st Level 4E Adventure

I've got to say that, although only a particularly effusive loon would call it THE BEST ADVENTURE EVER, the first-level lair in Open Grave features the best 4e hook I've yet encountered: at least one of your players is working a contract as a freelance "resurrectionist"; that is, someone who...
