    You're not missing anything.

Hahaha! I'll have to tell him that; it will probably either amuse or mystify him. Maybe both. (I think Axe is still suspicious of me because my main game is OD&D instead of AD&D. Although at this point there's an awful lot of AD&D in my OD&D, and quite a bit of OD&D in my AD&D...) :)

All that sounds good, to me. I usually don't use weapon specialization. I've also run AD&D games where I scrapped weapon proficiencies as you describe, above. However, I do apply the non-profiency penalty in cases where the PC in using the weapon is less than ideal conditions (e.g., not...

Next year, I'm back to running AD&D

That's how I'd approach UA. I've no problem with additional spells and magic items. I think the UA unarmed combat rules are worth using, too. That's about it, though. If weapon specialization is used, my suggestion would be to only allow it at certain levels. My pick would be 4th level...

Legends & Lore: The Loyal Opposition

My favorite approach to skills in D&D in AD&D's "secondary skill" system (which, to be clear, is not non-weapon proficiencies).

    Movies/books/tv that've inspired your D&D/RPG games?

Interesting. You posted that while I was composing my previous post (which says the exact same thing). I wonder if that is a common thing among people who started playing D&D in the 70s and 80s.

    Movies/books/tv that've inspired your D&D/RPG games?

Yeah, that occurred to me as I was writing my list. I've continued to read fantasy (although I read fiction from other genres, too), but I can't say that more recent stuff has inspired my D&D game. (It has sometimes inspired me, but using other RPGs, not D&D.) There's a lot of fantasy...

Dude, that font you posted in is super tiny (at least at my screen's resolution). I'll think about my list and get back to you...

Here's a list. Don't know exactly how up-to-date it is.

Holy sheepdip - wotc to republish old editions

I prefer that, too (especially for something like AD&D rulebooks, which I think are too long for the "print it yourself" approach). However, I've used printed PDFs of modules at my table, and would do so, again. If it's a choice between print and PDF, I'll take print. But if it's a choice...

Holy sheepdip - wotc to republish old editions

That's how I play D&D, too. I'm completely uninterested in an DDI account as a means of accessing or using the content. However, I wouldn't rule out the DDI as a means of acquiring content.

Holy sheepdip - wotc to republish old editions

Depends on the formatting of the printed document: if it's like a printed web page, I'm less likely to be interested. If it prints like a document that was formatted for printing, then I might. The thing is, if I can print it off, I can "print" it to a PDF. So they might as well just sell me...

Holy sheepdip - wotc to republish old editions

Perhaps a model where you subscribe and get 1 or more free downloads of older edition books per month. That would prevent people from missing the "month of the PHB," but would still provide an incentive to keep a subscription. You could also peg the number of free "old edition" downloads per...

Holy sheepdip - wotc to republish old editions

Hmm. The most important factors, for me are: The older the material is, the more likely I am to be interested in a re-issued/new publication of it. That's not just because I prefer the older editions, but also because used 3e material is mostly cheap and easy to find, but used original D&D...

Best old style AD&D dungeon crawlers ever

That's another excellent suggestion. I was only thinking of AD&D modules, so it didn't spring to mind (it's for original D&D), but it's a cinch to use original D&D material with AD&D, and Caverns of Thracia is one of the better old-style dungeon crawls out there.

Best old style AD&D dungeon crawlers ever

This. Lost Caverns of Tsojcanth is my pick.
