    Operation: Power Level Gary

We're close, everyone. Keep it up, let's do this! So without further prevarication, here is a post from Gary about why the ghouls you fight are undead! http://www.enworld.org/forum/general-rpg-discussion/215360-when-did-ghouls-become-undead.html#post3967138

Question About Dragonborn Channeling and Opinions on a Ruling Concerning a Ritual

This is clearly an attempt to manipulate and break of the rules. In my game, I would give the player/pc a warning that it couldn't work, and that something could even go wrong. If they didnt heed the warning, and tried to do the stupid exploit anyway, I'd make them lose their gear, a limb, send...

    Re-thinking Brutal Weapons

This is a debate of realism versus theatricality. As players or DMs, we choose what kind of game we want. I personally don't run games that are based in reality... it's a fantasy game. The 4e player's handbook and DM guides remind us that the PC's are what legends are made of. Giving a PC an...

    Encounter with waves of monsters

It might be fun to have a leader involved in this encounter. The leader could re-animate the undead when bloodied, shouting "The power I weild... you weaklings cannot fathom!" The undead then come back a bit stronger than before! (I.E. they glow with a necrotic aura that does 1d6 in a burst 1 to...

Greater Deck of Many Things (need suggestions)

Open Grave: The character is haunted in their sleep by the ghost of a dead NPC or former character. This character gains no benefit from extended rests. The haunt cannot be fought in any manner, wished away or gotten rid of by any means other than the holding of a significant memorial event, or...

Magic Gems (Based on the belt of Deltora)

Diamond: I always liked the way 4e handled the iconic Gauntlets of Ogre strength, and they came to mind when you described the diamond. So this stone is based off those. Property: Receive a +2 bonus to all strength based skill checks. This excludes strength based attacks Property: If the gem is...

    A new spin on rituals

Agreed, this seems to me to be a great idea. It plays counter to the idea of shortening the day, as you are opposed to.

    Cloaked and Transposing Weapons

I don't think the either embuement would be so broken to use, even with a rogue. As a DM, I'd rule that after the first one is thrown, the rest are no longer cloaked/transposing. Moderation always rests in the hands of the DM.

Problems as a dm/players won't commit to story

I'll provide their desires after next sesh (thurs night). Perhaps I am rushing the epicness a little bit. I wouldn't want it to feel contrived or trite, so I'll beslowing things down and building toward more climactic events withmy inteded story. The players have taken interest in the dreams...

Problems as a dm/players won't commit to story

I'm not sure where you got the idea that I wanted them to have their own base. It's not a problem in my eyes, but what I want them to do is start working for the greater good (or bad) instead of just trying to benefit themselves. But that can probably wait until paragon. Trying to start on the...

Problems as a dm/players won't commit to story

Luckily the story is organic, it can change as things develop. A charcter dies? Well, the Diety who chose them will suffer in some way because his/her scion fell. I'll be sure to communicate this, though. By the way, I've been giving out a lot of xp here because my group and I have alot...

Problems as a dm/players won't commit to story

Very good points. My players have been having a tough time writing up backstories, but since we're 4 levels in now, maybe they have seen enough of the world to write up what they want. Cool idea. I've been taking some liberty with the races... for example the Goliaths are less nomadic, and...

Problems as a dm/players won't commit to story

Agreed. Like I was saying, the next 6 levels can be about pirating, and like you said, the other events can start building. It actually seems very cinematic to me! I can make the shift between tiers very climactic this way. :)

Problems as a dm/players won't commit to story

Well, the pirate thing admittedly has been quite a bit of fun for us all, but the problem with it is that it is just too sporadic and has no aim. If we were to stay on that path for 26 more levels, I'dget bored by the end of the first tier. I'll be bringing this up when I talk to the players...

Problems as a dm/players won't commit to story

Hopefully we do though, two players said last sesh that it is a bit hard knowing where to go because they don't have a grand plan. So we'll be talking, like I said. What I'm asking for now is some tie-in ideas. That is why I provided the story and the hooks.

Problems as a dm/players won't commit to story

I first posted this in plots and places but felt it more fitting here. so.. re-posting... So I have been DMing on and off with a group for a few months now, but mostly we've been pretty regular. All the PC's feel that the game is doing great, and are having tons of fun every time, but I am...

Plot-driven training, outside of level advancement

I'm a big fan of RP training and allow for a great deal of it. I have a character who bought bibles in a merchant city so that she could study religion. I gave the books some interesting twists: one book is magic and reads quickly, one is normal, one is alive and converses with her.As she...

PC's (almost) complete lack of commitment to anything. Help!

So I have been DMing on and off with a group for a few months now, but mostly we've been pretty regular. All the PC's feel that the game is doing great, and are having tons of fun every time, but I am not satisfied with the story one bit. The Players have gone from level 1 to level 4 without...
