    Consequences of encounters replacing dailies?

Other than losing damage output, replacing dailies with encounter powers will have one serious drawback at first glance: Daily powers usually have some sort of effect which triggers whether or not the character successfully hits (half damage on a miss, effect, etc.) They're guaranteed to do...

Please Help - Encounter: The Merchant's Crew

Thanks for the ideas everyone, they've all been great. For the elemental-powered engine I've decide to put a fire elemental and a water elemental, each of which can be taken contol of after two successful arcana/diplomacy/intimidation/etc. checks. Failed checks means they get angry and attack...

Please Help - Encounter: The Merchant's Crew

I think I'll have a rope swing in place, where the character can move 8 squares in a path they choose (line or arc only, no zig-zagging! :P) They'll also be able one basic attack on he way without triggering OA's. Also I think I'll put a hook on the rope so they can throw it at an enemy and...

Meaner... buffer... I made Tordil an elite. Feedback please! Would he, along with the other two monsters above, crush my level 2 group, or should they be able to take the trio down?

What single houserule has made your game AWESOME?

Agreed. We have only used them once (in our most recent session) but the game was awesome. I had all kinds of contingency things prepared that I didn't know when I'd be able to use, but when the players made up the story that session, I was able to use a bit of it. We all had a blast.

    Gakan

"OP" means Overpowered. I think the Gahk Concentration you have listed in the first post is fine (it is the same as the human bonus.) As for empty hands, I'd agree with circadian. Make it a feat, +1 to attack rolls, +2 at 11th level, and +3 at 21st. The damage is fine for first level, but have...

    Gakan

I think they're pretty balanced as they are, if you add more racial powers they'd be pushing the line in to OP. As for your concern about monks relying on dex rather than str, remember that str is still important to monks of either build. You can always still use an array to give them 18 dex...

LostSoul: Great ideas. I especially like the idea of a bound air elemental, that's just dripping with awesome flavor. I'll def. be making cards with terrain powers, too. :)

That is an interesting idea. Perhaps he should be able to re-roll any roll at the cost of his only action point, using whichever roll is higher. If that were the case, I'd toss on some extra hitpoints and make him an elite. Would that be unbalanced? I'm aiming to balance this fight as well as I...

    Re-thinking Brutal Weapons

I wouldn't be granting use of all superior weapons. That would be a lot to give out for just swinging around one axe, which doesn't make much sense in realistic terms. The Weapon Training feat doesn't go that far, from what I can tell. I'd let him have "Weapon Training - Execution Axe," so to...

    Re-thinking Brutal Weapons

Ah, I see. I'm a little more lenient with feats than the RAW, though. If a character role-plays the process of mastering something, I'll gladly reward their efforts... within reason. I've been know to grant skill training in intelligence skills, for example, to a character who spends long hours...

Please Help - Encounter: The Merchant's Crew

Another idea just popped in to my head. I was thinking that instead of having minions, I might make the brute an elite. My reasoning is that this would make him more of a threat, and therefore more exciting. If I gave him some power to hold his enemies on him, such as marking or even a pull...

    Re-thinking Brutal Weapons

This weapon requires a feat to use? I don't see how, at least not for the fighter I plan to give it out to... Can you elaborate on that?

    Re-thinking Brutal Weapons

I'm not worried about the math in option 2... I doubt anyone in the group would even think of "add 3" as math because it is so simple. As for damage potential, you seem to have the ideas backwards. As Keterys has shown: option 1 affects damage potential adversely, and option 2 doesn't affect it...

    Re-thinking Brutal Weapons

So I am planning on giving the fighter in my party a +1 Execution Axe. I think a normal Execution Axe is a pretty powerful weapon in it's own right. A d12 weapon, it has the property "Brutal 2" which means when the player beats the AC check, they re-roll 1's and 2's on their damage dice. So in...

Amaria Vonavel, Elven Sharpshooter Here is the final NPC for the fight, a level three archer. Amaria Vonavel, Elven Sharpshooter So there they are! All 3 NPCs the level 2 party will be facing as they board the merchant ship. I think I'll throw 5 human rabble in, buffing them up to two-hit...
