D&D 4E Why Vampires Suck in 3.X, and How 4e Can Fix Them

Any character that by it's very nature negatively affects it's allies is unsuitable for players. Undead are sustained by a type of energy diametrically opposed to that which sustains normal creatures. As such, casters able to channel both types of energy must juggle their resources accordingly...

D&D 4E Why Vampires Suck in 3.X, and How 4e Can Fix Them

Your point would be valid if the quoted poster was referring to monstrous adventurers in general. Instead he refers specifically to undead fueled by dark magic, feral werebeasts, and other creatures uniquely unsuited for players. While Creatures of the Night are thematically appropriate for...

    No Penalties

One must take into account that heroes of other races would likely have even larger bonuses. So, while an accomplished halfling ranger might be stronger than an average human commoner, it still is outclassed by an experienced human paladin.

    Was 3rd edition fundamentaly flawed?

LOL WUT? If the info we've seen thus far is any indication, the designers are encouraging tinkering, and making the rules much more conducive to it. Making customized creatures the dominion of more than the most temporally gifted seems more an endorsement than an indictment of the practice...

D&D 4E On the set of 4E: the Beholder

How's he supposed to convey that he's ascended to lichhood if his text doesn't reflect the chilling embrace of arcane undeath?

    New Podcast up

I concur. The designers have been championing party roles too much to have one be the dominion of a single class. Therefore, two possibilities present themselves - one, we'll be seeing new classes unexpectedly announced to great fanfare, or two, the designers are a humongous bunch of ninnies.

Why Shouldn't Martial Characters have powers?

Like what? To make a more substantial post, I agree with the designers decision to make inherent skill a source of supernatural power, as being extraordinarily skilled at things based in reality, like wielding a sword, makes much more sense than being extraordinarily skilled at thing with no...

Playtest: limited resources, at will power, and #$!* GNOME arcanist

You are a stupendously humongous killjoy. Also, you've just more or less described every session I've ever run, ever.

    Monsters As Encounters

What I want to know is how one would go about hunting down this monstrosity after my Ahabized players decide they want revenge against it for devouring half their number and leaving the rest stranded for days (before being rescued by mermaids, of course). I think this variety of encounter...

    D&D 3.x A message to the 3.5ers

The problem with ignore lists is that you can't ask if you're on someone's ignore lists... And Wormwood, though I've been trying to find a proper context to say this in, I positively dig your Rock & Rule avatar.

Well, his camera is zoomed in on the beholder, so obviously all gaze attacks that pass through it are going to be appropriately amplified.

D&D 5E (2014) Who Will be The Next Monte...

The easy answer is Mearls. But were I with marketing, I'd tell you that the next big designer is you, the players and dungeon masters, because 4E is empowering you to customize your play experience as you see fit.

I, for one, didn't like it at all. Alright, that's not true, but I wanted to be the first one to be contrarian in this thread.

    D&D 3.x A message to the 3.5ers

"Arthur Adams was a successful New York advertising executive who's only vice was a longstanding cocaine habit. His firm had recently obtained a lucrative contract with Hasbro, and their outlooks had never looked better. That was, until a New Jersey farmer found the executive's disfigured body...

Jennifer Clarke Wilkes on Paragon level Playtesting

"Dwarven opportunity attack monster screams to me '4th edition has plenty of balanced options for character builds.' And also that 'no, in 4th edition, you won't slow combat to a crawl with attack of opp rules.'"

    New Design and Development: Pantheon

I'm probably going to create my own pantheon, so it doesn't particularly matter, but whenever I will say the word 'Bane,' I will do it with a raspy accent, as though I'd been a smoker all my life. If you want to try it yourself, say 'Bane' while pretending you're Solid Snake or Wolverine.
