From a technical perspective, everyone is supposed to have damage rolled individually. In practice, this can rapidly become tiresome, and many people will simply shortcut it by rolling once and applying the base results to everyone.
It's like critical hits: Although you're SUPPOSED to reroll...
Yeah, putting a high-level monk to sleep with the Sleep spell? That just doesn't work. The only way you can put a high-level monk to sleep involves a two-by-four to the back of the head.
I'm somewhat at a loss for some of the odd choices of druid weapon selection, which does not happen to include either the bow, or the axe, both of which are far more "natural" and "woodsy", and fit the archetype far more than the SCIMITAR....since when were druids Turkish or Arabic?
Besides...
I think it's well-accepted that fighters, as a core class, have an extremely narrow focus that they don't even truly excel at. What, exactly, that focus *IS* is somewhat unknown. Unfortunately, the clearest anyone can come to a readily defined focus for the fighter is "somebody who hits things...
Personally, the way I'd handle ASF were I to run a 3/3.5 game in the near future, would be to apply ASF to a mage casting a spell they aren't proficient in, and require the caster remove or forgo the use of his gauntlets for a spells with somatic components, and his helmet for a verbal...
Well, presumably, the AC for "nothing" at most 0, and quite possibly negative-infinity. If you miss nothing, then logically, you hit something. That, of course, happens to be the secret for flight: Throw yourself at the ground and miss.
That was entirely not my point: The point is that in order to have a shot at spotting ANYTHING you'd be expected to spot, like a rogue several levels below you, you'd HAVE to max out your skill. If you DIDN'T, it'd be as effective as not having the skill at all, and a hell of a lot less...
Defensive casting represents one the most basic elements of Concentration, the ability to concentrate and cast spells under adverse conditions: the defensive cast. A first level spell is one of the simplest, most lowly abilities there is. If something this simple, this basic, cannot be performed...
The d20 represents "noise". Your skill ranks are your signal. When the amount of signal is drowned out by the amount of noise, the skill is meaningless. If something doesn't work in a reliable manner, it may as well not work at all, for all the good it is. At least then it's reliably...
Why are they called "banned" books if libraries willfully stock them and flagrantly boast about their defiance of said "ban"? Doesn't this completely undermine the point of banning them, instead serving to simply call attention to them and cause people to read them who would otherwise not read...
Yes, but the thing is, the expertise bonus applies even when you're not in danger of being hit by that person, such as if you're attempting to poke him with a spear-pike, or shoot him in the head.
The other unfortunate problem of sleeping in the outdoors, is the need to leave a light of some kind going, or run a high risk of being devoured in your sleep by a grue. Admittedly, this can happen just as well if you lose your light source and can't see in the dark while you're awake, but it's...
For many skills, they're only good when you have full ranks....and a large number of levels of those full ranks.
For instance, Concentration: Let's consider a very basic task: Defensive casting of a first level spell: DC16.
This means you will not be able to perform this without a +15...
The best defense often *IS* a good offense, because dead opponents find it difficult to attack you.
The rules do sort of suggest that it IS possible to attack nothing: Phantasmal opponents, which don't exist, can be attacked. Invisible opponents that you don't know are there can also be...
