Good party needs to "extract" information

Well, while physically torturing someone might be out for a good party, there are plenty of good psychological tortures, such as constantly badgering him over and over about it. Or you can use one of many fascinating Chinese tortures, none of which are physically painful, like the water torture...

Players: Do you plan in advance for character progression?

I always have a plan for my characters. Even back before third edition, I had a plan. In real life, I have a plan. I don't even take a crap without a plan.

    4 Stealthy PCs + 1 loud metal paladin = ??

Well, there's lying, and there's omission. The paladin should not lie, except in extremely extenuating circumstances, but it should be acceptable in most instances for him to simply omit things that are best left unsaid for the good of all involved. However, Mister Loud and Clunky serves a...

I've Whetted My Dice With Blood

I don't think that the character's death was in any way your fault, from your description. From the what you said, he basically acted like he really didn't care anymore if he lived or died. Seems more like he was playing with a chip on his shoulder and a deathwish, and found dying to really be...

    0 BAB at level 7?

That's only fair if you do it near French castles.

How long does it take to throw a splash weapon?

That makes sense. Lobbing a straight throwing object is a standard action, just as throwing a dagger would be a standard action, whereas lobbing something that requires some form of extensive preparation, such as a Molotov cocktail, would thus require an MEA as a preparation.

Quicker Than The Eye feat (from Song & Silence)

That's not a trouble. You just feint, and instead of sense motive + BAB opposing your feint, it's spot + BAB for someone using this feat to feint.

    HPs gained per level

I've seen it happen once or twice, but it made basically no difference in the long run. The player became overconfident and drunk upon his newfound power, and died anyway, or had been rolling for crap for the past few levels anyway, and merely was getting his due. The other reason I devised...

Has anyone run a campaign where the world is still in its diapers, so to speak?

Well, it depends on how you define "in its diapers". Does this mean the world consists of barely-evolved simianoids that have barely begun to walk upright, and that it would be quite an achievement for the PCs to even possess a loincloth and a sharp stick, or something more like a medieval world...

What is the dumbest way you've seen a paladin lose his paladinhood?

Okay, that one definitely takes the gold medal. While the drinking contests and some of the others would simply have been deemed a bad DM looking to make an ex-paladin, Mr. "I Charge Him With My Lance" asked for that. What the HELL kind of paladin charges a harmless old man with his lance?!? I...

    How Do Your Villains Escape?

Heh. And the moment I saw this thread resurface after a 3 month hiatus, I *KNEW* Altalazar had struck again. I still say that the best return is the "unexplained" return. It's an adventure hook in itself, "Didn't we kill this guy? How did he come back from the dead? Did Altalazar dig him up and...

Complete Warrior - Master Thrower PrC, thoughts/suggestions/ideas/builds?

I prefer EWP: Bag of Feral Cats. You just can't help but be slightly intimidated by a man who fights with a bag of feral cats.....I mean, what kind of man can put feral cats in a bag?

How long does it take to throw a splash weapon?

Throwing items is a standard action, obviously. That means by process of elimination, preparing an item in need of preparation to be thrown is an MEA. The number of weapons which can be thrown in a round, therefore, is determined by the individual's BAB: A full attack would allow him to hurl one...

How does Combat Reflexes and Expert Tactician Give an Extra Attack?

The S&S text of ET does not specify that the feat may only be used once per round. So, the key points of contention: The feat may only be used once per round....this is never specified. It DOES specify that you can make one extra melee attack opponent who is denied dexterity bonus, and you can...

how does one generate abilities with the point buy system?

No, points should only be reduced by 2. To reduce by 6 would assume that a Con of functional equivalence to 14, meaning +2 HP/lvl, +2 fort, is gained. Since "no con" gives the same effects as Con 10, namely no bonus or penalty, it should be the same as a purchase of 10 con.

    Using Poison Evil?

Causing undue suffering in the process of incapacitating or killing an opponent is eviloid. Poison CAN do this, but some poisons can be quite lethal and kill very quickly. This is why lethal injection is now used as the method of execution in several states, as opposed to methods like the...

Can an invisible character use Bluff to Feint?

Everyone treats invisibility as "an advantage", and goes with the belief that people should never be penalized for having an advantage. This is hogwash. Invisibility is not an advantage, it's a status. While USUALLY helpful, any gamer or military strategist knows that sometimes, it is beneficial...

D&D 3.x [3.5] How many times can I try to pick a lock?

Well, if the rogue is detected attempting to pick the lock out of combat, by the monsters on the other side, who decide to interrupt him, then he risks being hit in the face by the door and smashing several fingers. Make an attack roll for the monsters, treating the door as an improvised weapon...

    0 BAB at level 7?

I think that a simple system for this is simply to, instead of doing BAB and saves by class, do them by class grouping. For BAB, for instance, there are 3 types of BAB, which I will deem simply "good" (fighters, barbs, etc.), "bad" (wizards, sorcerors), and "ugly" (clerics, rogues, etc.) So if...

    Where does the gold go?

Yes, but having an "invisible line" makes little or no sense, other than as an appeasement to the Game Balance Gods again. Clearly, if such an item exists, or can be made, somebody will be willing to make them, or they wouldn't have existed at all. Unless, of course, you accept that all game...
