    D&D 4E 4E: DM-proofing the game

You missed the point of my post. The purpose of my post was to point out that, if it's valid to use the specter of bad players to support one side of an argument, it's equally valid to use the specter of bad DMs to support the other side.

    D&D 4E 4E: DM-proofing the game

Hmm. It looks to me like there's some Anti-Playerism around here, too. (Spoken as someone who mostly DMs these days).

    D&D 4E 4E: DM-proofing the game

Well, then it's funny that most items in 4E don't have level limits, and in the one instance where they do (rings), the limit is nothing like what you claim an MMO needs (the limit is just that you have to wait until 11th level to use a ring, so a PC could wear a Ring of Supreme Godly Power at...

The Devil's in the Details: Slavicsek reveals the Pit Fiend in all its glory

If you have concrete information to this effect, please post it. Otherwise, I think you're off in your assumption. There won't be +Con items in 4E, so high level hit points could very well be lower than they were in 3E.

The Devil's in the Details: Slavicsek reveals the Pit Fiend in all its glory

Where was such an implication in 1E? There weren't any, and yet I had no problem using all sorts of monsters as social encounters for my players.

The Devil's in the Details: Slavicsek reveals the Pit Fiend in all its glory

But since most every devil in the hells probably knows about the Irresistible Command ability, why would any devil ever agree to allow a Pit Fiend to designate him as an ally, knowing he'll just get blown up and instantly killed? The more I think about Irresistible Command, the more it seems...

The Devil's in the Details: Slavicsek reveals the Pit Fiend in all its glory

Also don't forget that +Con items don't exist in 4E, so high-level PCs probably won't have quite as many hit points as you'd expect them to.

    D&D 4E 4E: DM-proofing the game

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Dungeons_%26_Dragons_computer_and_video_games By my rough count, starting with Pool of Radiance in 1988, there were about 50 D&D video games published in the 1E-2E days (about 4.2 per year until 3E was released). Compare that to the 20 or so published since...

    D&D 4E 4E: DM-proofing the game

It's also worth noting that there was no shortage of D&D PC games back in the 1E days. How many Gold Box games did they publish? 9? And there were lots of other D&D PC games besides those, too.

    D&D 4E 4E: DM-proofing the game

Well, that's an issue of player behavior. What can the rules possibly do about that? This has been true in every edition of D&D ever made.

    What shows have episodes left?

The Wire has completed it's fifth (and final) season and it's airing right now as scheduled. I'm glad they were able to finish it - best show on TV today, no question.

The CR system and 50-point buy!

It's also worth noting that a higher point buy means more for some character classes than it does for others. For example, a 50-point monk is going to be a LOT more powerful than a 28-point monk. But a 50-point fighter won't have nearly the same edge over a 28-point fighter. So there's that...

D&D 4E My compiled list of 4E's WoWisms

Dragons have had area-effect fire breath since the first days of D&D. This is not a WoWism. Dragons have had claw attacks since the first days of D&D. This is not a WoWism. Not sure on the knockback, but dragons have had tail swipe attacks since at least 2nd edition, which greatly predates...

New article Design and Development Article on Magic Item Slots

Well, the Christmas Tree effect involved characters having a ton of items that they needed to have in order to be able to function effectively at high levels. According to this article, there are only three magic items that characters need in 4E - so the Christmas Tree effect has been greatly...

    Stun/Paralysis effects

What one finds boring is indeed subjective, but whether or not one is actually playing the game can be judged objectively. Does it really matter if a player, after failing a saving throw against a save-or-die attack in round 1 of a combat, stays at the table to watch his friends fight it out or...

Ah, I see. It didn't seem that way to me, but that's a matter of opinion I guess.

    When "fun" just isn't enough.

How is this not exactly the same thing that was done in Keep on the Borderlands? Monsters in that module were purposely placed close enough to each other so that one group would hear the PCs enter combat with another group, and join the battle a few rounds after it started.

    When "fun" just isn't enough.

You do realize that in Keep on the Borderlands, it was specifically stated that the monsters in a given cave would go to the aid of their comrades when they heard the sound of combat, right? In fact, I've been playing since B/X and 1E, and except for when I was just starting out as a DM and...
