    Top 25 Sci-Fi movies/tv (1982-present)

Well, Buffy is fantasy, not sci-fi. I can see why it didn't make the list. But yeah, the omission of Babylon 5 invalidates the entire list, IMO.

Worst Movie ever (...according to rottentomatoes)

Eh, I thought Highlander 4 was worse than Highlander 2. Highlander 2 at least had a budget and some halfway decent special effects (for its time), even if there was nothing else worthwhile about it. Highlander 4 didn't even have that. And I never saw Highlander 5, but I heard it was even worse...

D&D 5E (2014) Critical Hits Appears to be Next in D&D Archive

Consider a greatsword wielder who rolls a natural 20, then fails his confirmation roll, getting no extra damage at all. That's lame, too.

Wizards still cast Enchantment, Illusions, Necromancy

The problem is, a lot of the supposed flexibility of 3E was really just an illusion. Sure, in 3E you can play a fighter who emphasizes Dexterity over Strength and dual-wields two shortswords. But you'll be vastly less effective than the big hulking brute swinging a greatsword. Freedom to suck...

D&D 5E (2014) Critical Hits Appears to be Next in D&D Archive

But that's not a prize unless you can only hit the foe on a natural 20. And that's a pretty rare situation in my experience.

D&D 5E (2014) Critical Hits Appears to be Next in D&D Archive

What prize do you win if you roll a threat, and then fail the confirmation roll?

    Martin update

Same here. Given how long it took after book 3 for us to see book 4, I wasn't about to buy it and reread the entire series (which I would have had to have done to get myself back up to speed) just to have another ridiculously long wait for book 5. Maybe I'll revisit the series once it's finished...

Design & Development: Traps is up!

Or maybe, if they trigger the trap, it doesn't do damage right away. Maybe the doors to the room slam shut and the ceiling starts descending slowly. Or maybe it's like the rolling boulder trap from Indiana Jones. There are lots of things traps can do besides "instant damage."

This weekend @ the boxoffice: 2007.Dec.24

It's built into (most of) us at a genetic level. It's part of the survival instinct, because cannibalism carries a ton of health risks. From a health standpoint, it's better to eat diseased cattle than a sick human.

ROME - HBO series..our favorite series

Yeah, with the dollar so weak these days, shooting in Europe would be very expensive for an American company.

    Playtesting vs a .5 Edition

Wow, yourself. Lots of characters can use a greatsword (all fighters, barbarians, paladins, and rangers for a start) and it is certainly affordable for a 1st level character. And if you're going to increase the damage the Star Wars character is doing, we can easily do the same for the D&D...

    OoTS 515

All of that may be true, but the fact is that OotS is a comic strip first and a D&D strip second. That means that if "this is funny" conflicts with "this works by the rules of D&D," the former is going to trump the latter every time. The joke in this strip is that Belkar went up a level, then...

    OoTS 515

But Rich can fudge on that all he wants. If V casts a buff spell that affects 13 people, but 100 strips later casts the same spell and it only affects 12, it's not like that would be at all important to the plot or the storyline. Most readers probably wouldn't even notice. Similarly, it doesn't...

    Playtesting vs a .5 Edition

Indeed, even with a 15 Strength (iconic human 1st level fighter), a greatsword (2d6+3) does 10 points of damage on average, compared to 10.5 for a 3d6 blaster rifle. There's essentially no difference, and that's without min/maxing the D&D character at all.

    OoTS 515

Well, then we'd have no way of knowing it happened at all, so what would be the point? It's not like this is a real D&D campaign where the exact level of the characters actually matters.

    OoTS 515

But that would ruin the joke, so it probably won't happen.

AOO's have to go, or be changed

But you need to use a full-round action to do that, and you may want to do something else instead. You don't have to use an action to attack someone drinking a potion, so why should you have to use one to attack someone who's paralyzed?

    Dungeons, Dragons, and Demographics

This is true. I like 3.5, but I haven't bought a 3.5 book for a couple of years now. I just don't need any more books - I can play just fine with what I have. I will probably buy at least the 4E core books, though. And I'm in the 26-35 group, started with BX, then moved on to 1E and BECMI.

My, how the adventures have changed...

Actually, you forgot one thing in your 1E description: After the fight with the Guide, the Chaotic Evil PC backstabs the fighter again and kills him (he was actually playing an assassin, and not a fighter who just happened to favor leather armor), finishes off the wizard, and is about to make...
