    The Trap Thread

I prefer memorable traps that severaly incapitate the party but leave some chance for survival. Of all the traps I mentioned, only the black pudding trap is insta-death. Well, I suppose a really high level fighter might survive. I think my favorite trap of all time has gotta be the head of...

Should the Paladin pay for Evil Magic Items he wants / has destroyed?

Sure, they can try to convince the paladin to pay for it, but it's up to the player of the paladin to decide if he's going to or not. Also, selling an unholy sword is definitely a non-good act, so I hope these players are not LG. As for the spellbook, did it detect as evil? If so, then I...

What do you think of poison in d20

Yeah, it is deadly. But I can't think of anything more deadly than poison so it makes sense to me. I would also rule that if the poison does 1 damage and a fort save is successful, it deals no damage. I would also change many natural poisons to dex damage. Once dex hits 0, suffocation begins.

    The Trap Thread

What devious, deadly traps have you designed? Here's a few I'm planning on using in an upcoming adventure. Illusory Boulder and Pit Trap Area: Hallway Description: 40 ft. from PC's, illusion of ceiling dropping, becoming a ramp of sorts. Suddenly, a boulder rolls down the ramp, speeding...

Help my party take out a Pit Fiend

Actually, that's a good idea, planar ally a glabrezu or other powerful tanar'ri. It would likely agree, knowing that it has a chance to take out a powerful devil and can teleport away if the going gets too tough.

What do you think of poison in d20

I do Fort save for half damage. It just makes no sense that you could be poisoned and not feel a thing. Also, instead of immediate onset, you could try onset 2d10 rounds.

How much would this item cost?

I've decided to make it have an effect more in line with Hideous Laughter because otherwise it would be way too powerful.

    Help me build a Conjurer

Take the Augment Summoning feat, it will give your monsters a +4 to Str and Con. Have dispel magics ready to dispel protection from good/evil/chaos/law.

    Exalted moral dilemma

I agree. Let's use the "telling a small lie vs. world being destroyed" example. According to the BoED, telling the lie would be wrong, regardless of the consequences. So, obviously an exalted character cannot tell the lie. However, allowing the world to be destroyed is also an unexalted act...

    Why do clerics prepare spells?

The way I do cleric spells in my campaign is through a Faith check. This is a d20 roll based on cleric level with many modifiers dependent on how faithful the cleric has been. The result of the roll determines how the god acts on the cleric's behalf. Fail the check and the god will be angry...

How much would this item cost?

It's a Horn of Striding and Springing. To activate, you blow the horn. Effect: Everyone within 30 ft. must make a Will save or begin leaping about uncontrollably for the next 2d4 rounds. It can be used 1/day. Here's my guess as to its value: use-activated, 1/day, 4th level spell, 7th caster...

Do you need high stats to be an effective character?

Seeten, it seems like your idea of "good" roleplaying only includes characters of one specific type (smart, wise, and charismatic). I think you're cutting yourself out of a lot of other role-play opportunities, as the characters your describe are usually not actually that interesting to...

What levels do you enjoy DMing most?

Most DMs seem to enjoy DMing a certain range of levels.

    Exalted moral dilemma

This is EXACTLY why I don't play with exalted feats/status. It just doesn't make sense.

    Most embarassing gaming moment?

Got another one for ya'll. I'm DMing a friend in his little cottage behind his house late at night. He's screaming and flailing about when suddenly, a knock on the door. We open the door and see... a police officer. He says that neighbors called the cops because they thought a woman was...

    Most embarassing gaming moment?

Well, this one might not seem embarassing to some, but for those who had to hide their geekish tendencies in high school lest they be mocked forevermore, you'll understand. My friends and I are playing some hardcore D&D in my garage...we're yelling, throwing stuff, bouncing all around the place...

700 years later... (my players stay out)

Sounds interesting, but I wonder how fun it will be to play in the "past" (700 years earlier). The players might feel railroaded into watching events unfold and having no ability to change them. Here's some questions: why isn't everyone a wizard? more specifically, are only certain people...

    Please Help me Defend Darkhold

I figured out a small problem with a beholder with a lens of seeing...the antimagic ray will cancel it out. Also, there's no need to have the lens because the antimagic ray will undo any magical disguises. However, I like the idea of a beholder with a monocle, so maybe he just has bad...

    Most embarassing gaming moment?

I had a race of angelic humanoids called High Men. Well, it doesn't quite sound right when you say "you are greeted by the Highmen". I also described a dark evil as the "taint"... I'm sure you know what *else* it can mean.

    Gamers and Stereotypes

Word. There's no reason to be proud of smelling like moldy nachos. This "pride" usually is really just redirected anger and embarassment. Take pride in being smart, creative, individual...not in being unable to hold a conversation with someone who likes football.
