    DM Rewards

For you perhaps, and for myself as well. However, there are some DMs who DM exactly 5 games and then stop reporting... Now they will probably report none. I thought the purpose of the DM Rewards wasn't so much to say thank you than to encourage that reporting of events. I can say that it will...

    DM Rewards

One thing I am curious about... is private play going away entirely? It's not accepted for rewards but what if I want to play LFR at home and transport that character to public play? does that still exist or is it going away too? Not that it matters that much anymore, since you can craft a...

    D&D in Target?!?!

Totally saw that one coming. This is exactly what I had suspected would happen.

    DM Rewards

For the upcoming Red Box gameday, I am going to purchase a red box and give it away to a participant in the event. That might drive people to come and play... but that's ME supporting my meetup group, not WoTC supporting their product. :/

    D&D 4E Best 4E Tactical Encounters

Some of the more memorable encounters I have run had the following mix: Interesting terrain - It wasn't a basic room... there were things you could interact with, things that might hurt you, and things that the enemy knows about and uses to it's advantage. All three of those components in an...

    DM Rewards

Giving away a book to everyone isn't going to happen, you are right. With Gamma World that could change, since it has random booster packs. What I would love to see is PLAYER support in addition to DM Support. Like, come, play encounters for a 5 week chapter, get a free miniature or power...

    DM Rewards

No, you weren't wrong. The adventure is a thank you for the DM to keep for running the adventure. The player cards for the players to keep. Any extra kits we end up with we give to a camp for kids.

    Dark Sun Game Day

We had at least 4 tables go off, which is a pretty light run for us. Usually we run 6-8 tables, I was quite surprised. I am going to have to promote Red Box and Gamma World a lot more to get more players into the store. Perhaps even a raffle for a copy of the game.

    DM Rewards

I got a mailing this weekend of DM Rewards. It's a "rare, custom-made extra monster card for the new Castle Ravenloft game, the Grey Hag". So, um, I don't have the game yet (might get it but on the fence), but this seems an odd DM Reward. Also, they announce the following: To me, it looks...

    When it gets expensive!

It can be tough. I wanted to get the Ravenloft board game but it's too pricey for my budget. I'll wait and see if it appears in the used board games section down the road, that's how I buy almost all my board games (Formula D, Talisman 4E Revised, Pandemic, even Bang! all bought at a steep...

Do you ever cut and run?

What's the preference out there... bloody the party's nose early on in the campaign so they know you are serious or moderate encounters all along that lull the party into a false sense of superiority and then *blammo* the wake up call comes? In my experience, the party get cocky rather early...

Gamma World Box Set Sneak Peak on I09.com

If you mean Character Builder, I am pretty sure the answer to that is no, not at this time. Chargen is supposed to be fast and easy, no need for DDI tools to help with it. There was mention somewhere that they would explore that if there was demand.

Gamma World Box Set Sneak Peak on I09.com

I had a thought after watching the unboxing too about the cards. If there is 120 card set, and you get 60 of the cards in the box, are the blister pack cards all unique (as in not duplicating the 60 you already have?) Is it that there is really two 60 card sets? Pretty sure we will know...

Do you ever cut and run?

I was reading the excellent running commentary on PCats 4E game and spotted something he said about "I know we will win in 40 minutes". It got me thinking, how often does the party flee a battle that is obviously unwinnable? Have you ever "cut and run" from a battle in D&D, or do you...

    Winning Races: Gnomes

First, there is NO way a Gnome can be a winner, period. Second, I thought they were "monsters", yet the description before you read the article makes one stop to think that perhaps there are just a few bad apples out there: What happened to "I'm a monster, RAWR!"? All kidding aside, I would...

advice for a newbie DM running a "pick-up" game for slightly newbie players?

Of the adventures you listed, I am familiar with the first 3: Shadowfell - Long adventure, gets a bit dull as it's a lot of combats, but has a really great book 1 for explaining how to play the game. You can get book 1 for free from the Wizards site Sembia - Fun skill challenge, compact game...
