New Neverwinter Nights Game Probably On Its Way

NWN1 was unique in that it had a full toolset for building your own adventures PLUS a GM client you could take a group through. The single player game was okay, but what really gave that game legs was the custom content and GM client. I would LOVE to see a 4e version that did similar to...

    I Just Pre-Ordered the 4.5 Red Box...

Not out as of today. There are demonstration copies at your WOTC Premiere stores that you can check out and play around with. I had my hands on it yesterday, so I know that is the case. I bet the premiere stores get the product for sale on September 1st. Amazon on Sept 11th or around there...

New "Red Box" Starter Set hands-on preview

My FLGS also got a preview copy for running demos in the store. Couple things I didn't see mentioned: 1. Power Cards are printed on light weight (perhaps 70#) cardstock and are slightly smaller in size 2. The map side with two maps on it are both reprints 3. The tokens are lighter weight...

[Talisman] - Anyone played this with kids under 10?

I have played this with my 4 year old!

Save or Die: Yea or Nay?

I really dislike save or die. There is zero tension in it. What I prefer is what I saw in the 4E Tomb of Horrors RPGA mod, where the death is slow and difficult to overcome... there is drama in that death. Finger of Death... yep, sucks. Petrify (happened to my character in a pathfinder...

Do Premier Stores (U.S.) have Dark Sun Yet?

Game Empire Pasadena has the dark sun books and the psionic power book... if they haven't sold out by now, they will be tomorrow.

    Essentials: which new players?

I think that people who can't get, or dislike, the concept of exception based rules are the ones for whom this game is not a good fit, and probably are more likely to be a 3.x/Pathfinder fan. These are the people who like an explanation in the rules for every ability a creature can have, how...

    Red Box Essentials Unboxing Video

The old "Kill Bargle" or some such? What was different from anything I had seen prior is that you start the adventure without a pregenerated character, no stats, nothing... zero things written down. Just start playing, and then the complexities of the game and character generation are added on...

    Will Essentials do well?

I have a few thoughts... 1. We (ENWorld types) are not the target audience of the essentials line, so our viewpoint of if it will do well won't be good unless you. 2. It's a complete game in a box, everything you need is in there. The instructions have you playing the game before you even...

    Are gamers chronic loners

When we moved to a new area, I used gaming as a way to find new friends. My wife is a non-gamer but understands my need to interface with other human beings, and this is one outlet. She just can't stand the idea of sitting at a game table for 4 hours. :)

    Red Box Essentials Unboxing Video

Liked that there is a self run adventure (before you even write down a ability score you are in the adventure). Didn't think the comparison to an MMO starting area was quite right, but it would ring with the audience of that particular show. To me, more accurate way would be those old "choose...

    D&D 4E D&D 4e Combat Tracker Updated

Looks nifty. I am unsure it's something I could use quickly at the table though. Curious question for Steve... is someone delegated to managing the combat tracker or does the DM handle it all? Seems like it would be a huge distraction for someone like me.

No buzz for the 2011 Campaign Setting?

Once bitten, twice shy. :) Besides, I haven't much need for settings, and Eberron isn't my cup of tea, nor is the gritty Dark Sun. If I were to buy something else, I wouldn't want any novels written for it (no canon to worry about)... which was why I lost interest in the Nentir Vale book.

No buzz for the 2011 Campaign Setting?

As a person who feels that he's been burned once after buying and being disappointed in Forgotten Realms, I have yet to purchase Eberron and have no plans to buy Dark Sun. I do plan to purchase the Nentir Vale book, because I like the setting and would like more stuff to throw into it. Really...

    Which edition(s) do you play?

.... from one thread. Go back and look if you are masochistic. I was just pointing out what was interesting to me, that time moves on as do gamers... and some still cling fervently to what they know and love. I'd bet that a number of those who said they were sticking with THAC0 are still...

    Which edition(s) do you play?

What is really interesting is that similar arguments go on today... only it's 3.5 and 4e comparisons.

    Pregens for many levels?

Has anyone sat down to do some decent pregens for every level? Just to save me some time I was hoping to find some in CB format. The "quick build" are often unsatisfying in terms of performance, so it would be good to see some optimized solutions pre-done.

Do You Plan To Use Essentials In Your Game (No '4.5 Edition Sucks' Plz, Kthx)

I plan to buy the red box and use it as a tool to introduce new players (I get a lot of new players). I'll allow any essentials stuff into my home game as well. However, as a player, I am still very much enjoying the rogue I made on day 1 of 4E, and will continue to play him.
