D&D 5E (2014) So What ELSE is in The Next Essentials Players Book?

If recent history plays out again, we should start hearing of premiere stores having demo copies in a week or so. I know Gamma World comes to the shop on Friday, as well as the Essentials DM boxed set. When the red box came in early, along with something else I can't recall now, there was a...

Move 6 then move 2 and hide without penalty?

I also don't have the rule book in front of me, but I agree with the idea that the rogue moves to a pillar, and then slinks around it to gain the cover. If I was playing, I would even have my rogue expend a minor action to attempt a bluff to make the enemy think there was someone coming from...

Games that are more fun to play than to read

I never seemed to have trouble digesting how to play 4E from the rulebooks... but I am an engineer by trade and prefer a reference book. Boot Hill is one of those games that, to this day, I can't stand to read the rule book for, but it's a heck of a fun game.

Against the Cult of the Reptile Gods -- FREE?

Not to mention those of us who roam with a laptop. Sometimes I update from home, sometimes from Starbucks, sometimes from the office, sometimes at my friends house. Plus I have an install on my home desktop PC. That makes 5, even though I only have it installed on my laptop and my home...

    Good rule of thumb

Hmm, wonder what my post count is.... because I was wrong on something a week or two ago and I consider myself fairly knowledgeable about 4e rules. Ahh, see, DEFCON1 is about 1000 more than me so he's right :)

grr, double post, sorry. ENW acting a little odd lately with the quick reply button for me.

    Magic Missile while blinded

Page 277 of the PHB is a great page to photocopy and stick somewhere for reference. That's the conditions page, and tells you everything you need to know about immobilize and blinded. For magic missile, as someone stated above, my ruling would be if you have line of effect, you can auto-hit...

With all the ruminations on Essentials, are Power Cards even worth buying any more?

I personally do not want an all online tool. If they ever decide to stop supporting DDI, I sure still want the CB so I can make characters in the future with ease. Thus, I favor the current format, though wish it was java based. As for card format, it's horribly inefficient use of space, I...

    D&D Retro-clones

I found that with BFRPG it was easier for me to convert from a 3.x adventure to it than an older edition game. I can convert on the fly 3.x adventures. I seem to recall having to put a little more thought into the older edition games. I tend to think of Basic Fantasy RPG as a modernized...

    STILL No Character Builder Update?

Somehow I sense a business opportunity here. Rent a virtual Windows 7 box that you can connect to with a remote desktop client. Heck, Wizards could even offer a service like this for a surcharge to the DDI fee, not that I would expect them to. I haven't looked, but I bet you can find such a...

Gliese 581g - A Tidally Locked DnD World

What if the hole was blown into the center of the world by some evil plot long ago, rendering the world into it's current state (torus shaped and spinning like a wheel in it's orbit around the sun). Or if the planet was pierced by something else that managed to not totally destroy it.

Gliese 581g - A Tidally Locked DnD World

And does the world have to be spherical? What about a torus shaped world that was in geostationary orbit around a red dwarf sun, but that rolled, rather like a wheel. You would have differing gravities as well as environments. Perhaps the outside of the wheel being more like that of the moon...

Oh my hopes aren't high, don't worry about me :) And seeing your note I think it more doubtful (but perhaps what they are working on for the spring mailing or something).

Gliese 581g - A Tidally Locked DnD World

I mistyped that, meant to say "far too bright to see without sunglasses" or similar optical evolutions. I like the persistent wind thing, but for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. Perhaps the weather pattern pushes moisture to the cold side, feeding it's glaciers. The...

Gliese 581g - A Tidally Locked DnD World

Dark Side: Cold and Dark. The creatures that lived there before the world stopped turning either adapted to the extreme cold (lots of fur or blubber) and have night vision or some form of illumination, or died and rose again to become undead. Look to deep sea life here on earth, or drow for...

It could be an olive branch to let their customers know the flubbed with the DDI updates, so here, take a classic adventure and reskinned for 4e free of charge, and come back next month with DDI and you can get the reskinned U1 - Saltmarsh rehash (or somesuch)

    STILL No Character Builder Update?

I'd suggest contacting customer service and asking for a refund of last month. If they don't put the update this month, ask for a refund of this month. I hear they are offering refunds for last month. I have faith that something will be announced about this shortly, and I will be patient and...

Spotted on the content calendar for Oct 27th: Dungeons & Dragons Roleplaying Game Official Home Page - Calendar (October 2010 Content Calendar) You will see FREE: D&D Alumni N1 Could that be a 4E version of this? Could be interesting, given all the recent nostalgia trends.

With all the ruminations on Essentials, are Power Cards even worth buying any more?

If anyone ever sits down and writes up a set by step on how to set this up, I'd love it. So many people I know can't run CB because they have macs, and I think it would be great to help them out.
