With all the ruminations on Essentials, are Power Cards even worth buying any more?

I skip the whole "Print out and cut the cards up" thing using DDI. I print the full card sheets and slide them into an 8.5x11 plastic protector sheet, and then use dry or wet erase over the whole page. I never understood power cards until the other night when a friend said he used them because...

Black Diamond Games Blog - An Experiment

I hesitated to post this (for fear of edition warring) but I thought it rather interesting. This popped up on Facebook for me a little while ago and I thought I would share it. If they had this deal at my FLGS and I didn't own Pathfinder I would take the deal in light of the Rules Compendium...

    Dark Sun Collector's Guide

I did not see D&D Encounters Season 2 - "Dark Sun: Fury of the Wastewalker" on your list. There are three chapters to it, "Chapter 1: An Obsidian Rain", "Chapter 2: Tomb of a Long Lost Age", and "Chapter 3: Flight to Tyr".

    Eberron Collector's Guide

I did not see D&D Encounters Season 2 - "Dark Sun: Fury of the Wastewalker" on your list. There are three chapters to it, "Chapter 1: An Obsidian Rain", "Chapter 2: Tomb of a Long Lost Age", and "Chapter 3: Flight to Tyr". Bah, how did I manage to post in the wrong thread! Sorry, this is for...

    Why the Sneak Attack update

I really think it was done to have one less thing to keep track of, simplify the game seems like one of the design goals for the essentials line, so it fits.

D&D 4E Looking for new 4e modules (casual)

Actually I was referring to the old Delve Night program, which has a few adventures still up in the downloads section (these are not in the Delve book): Company of the Griffon Mar09 DDN -- 10th level delve Deepwater Rising May 09 DDN -- 16th level delve What You Wish For Feb 09 DDN -- 11th...

D&D 4E Looking for new 4e modules (casual)

Apparently there were some changes that I wasn't aware of. Please see Pedr's response in the following thread: http://www.enworld.org/forum/4e-discussion/294669-new-d-d-4th-edition-forglotten-realms-campaign-where-can-we-get-all-living-forgotten-realms.html#post5334317

D&D 4E Looking for new 4e modules (casual)

As I understand it, soon they will become simple downloads (I think January). Until then, there are a few hoops you have to jump through. Here is a link to the LFR homepage: Dungeons & Dragons Roleplaying Game Official Home Page - Event (Living Forgotten Realms) Basically, you log into the...

D&D 4E Looking for new 4e modules (casual)

Living Forgotten Realms adventures are all about 4 hours in length, require little more than a hour of prep (most of the time, often less) and are a complete story (or at least more of a story than the delve book will give you) Edit: You said combat heavy, my bad. So yeah, Delves and the...

D&D 4E [4E only] What kind of miniatures do you use, if any?

I use minis. Some plastic (I have thousands of them), and some metal (when I find a mini that says "You are my character").

Has the Wandering Monster concept died?

If I use them, which I do upon occasion, they aren't random types. I plan out what wandering monster is going to appear, it's the when that is random. This helps with prep as well as I don't need to look up monsters on the fly, I can have the stat blocks handy. It also helps to couple a...

    RPGs in Target!

Hmm, might need to sneak down to Target tomorrow morning with lots of little slips of paper with my meetup url on it and tape one to each box.

    Backstab and free action timing.

Gah, missed that. Damn rules minutia. Yep, you are right, it isn't a reroll, and in that case my ruling would be that you could add the +3 to the roll for backstab after the roll. So I reverse my statment :o

    Edition Love (not War)

I love fantasy roleplaying games, no matter what flavor they come in. In this genre I have played or am playing: D&D (every edition and version) Tunnels & Trolls Pathfinder Castles & Crusades Basic Fantasy RPG ...and they have all loved me back in some way, shape or form.

    Backstab and free action timing.

The trigger is what's important here. It says "You make an attack roll", not "You miss with an attack roll" or "You make an attack roll and do not like the result". My interpretation: you need to declare it before you make that attack roll, and get the bonus +3 to hit and extra 1d6 damage...

The Problem I Find Myself In (Long, Sorry)

I have a similar problem in that the table I play with is Pathfinder, but I really disliked DMing 3.x and my turn is coming up to DM. Now, I know we want to run "Red Hand of Doom" as the story, and I worked up a conversion already for it to 4E, so there is no problem there, but the bulk of the...

Lords of Madness Cases from Augie's.

Having never had a problem with Auggies in the past, the most agonizing part was the waiting for the UPS truck, so I feel your pain. Auggies has always gone out of their way to provide excellent customer service in my experience, so it's probably just the mad rush to ship hundreds of cases out.

    Redefining the Dungeon

Reading the novel "Pool of Radiance" on my way into work this morning, the group has a sequence of encounters with gnolls that leads up to a big showdown... struck me as rather one flowing encounter through several "rooms" of the "dungeon". Same with the island and the tower, both felt like...

    Charles Ryan leaving D&D (again!)

Whenver a door closes, another opens elsewhere. Best of luck in finding that door, I am sure it's not far away, particularly for one such as yourself Charles.
