Best GAMES AROUND! (NOT D20/4e, White Wolf or Cthulhu)

Three I can think of right off: Dread - Top of my list! Og - Caveman roleplaying, which I have played but do not yet own for some oddball reason. Aces & Eights - if for nothing else, the innovative shot determination mechanic There are others I am sure but those three spring to mind.

    The Skinny on Adventure Tools?

I disagree with your statement. Character Builder is the best piece of software for a game I have ever used. While this was true in the past, I really think they learned lessons and won't release a piece of dookie that nobody will use. When things are ready they will release them. I still...

    D&D 4E New 4E attack icon smilies

There is a new symbol for MM3 stat blocks to reflect auras. It basically looks like a stylized sun. I'll see if I can't get a scan of it done. It's on page 20 and 28 of Slaying Stone in the stat blocks for various bad guys.

What would be your WILD ideas for D&D?

But you would be competing against a number of retro clones that already have it quite right imo (and are free as well). I really like Basic Fantasy RPG for example, and when I want to play a basic RPG, that is my go to game. I haven't any suggestions for how to redesign a game system that I...

    What Monster(s) are Overexposed?

So what is needed to be seen more? I grow weary of every low level adventure it seems having Goblins, Kobolds, Gnomes or Halflings as the antagonists (what is with the shorties?). I had an adventure with giant ants, fungus men, constructs and a trapped demon in a buried ancient tower full of...

D&D 4E The still "complete" list of official 4E products, now with 2011!

That Oxford site is a bit out of date. The list you want exists almost nowhere (closest you will find is the Yahoo LFRSpoilers group). There are over 130 LFR adventures, and the LFR Spoilers group has a nice sortable Excel spreadsheet. The preview adventures are not legally anywhere that I am...

    Nentir Vale book

If the book is in the similar style of the Hammerfast Hold book, I will probalby buy it. For starters, my money is on a poster map of the vale itself being included. Second, there could be a couple dozen plot hooks, things I like because it's something I am not very good at developing myself.

HS1 - The Slaying Stone - my poor reviewing skills review

The only encounter that stood out to me as something the players would probably remember later... ... involves a kobold who carries with him a toxic oil that attracts an ankheg to that player. Watch the hilarity and mayhem as a massive ankheg comes chasing after whomever is marked with the...

HS1 - The Slaying Stone - my poor reviewing skills review

It's a cardstock cover which is stapled to 32 pages in a single booklet with a fold out map in the middle that isn't attached to anything. Very much reminds me of the old 1E adventures with two exceptions 1: The cover is stapled to the adventure 2: It's full color inside

    Why arn't Controllers Sexy

I am convinced. Next game I am making a wizard. I had been avoiding them because in 3.5 days, the last 3 characters I had were wizard, necromancer, and cleric. Unfun on many different levels for me (flipping through pages of spells.... bleh... not for me)

    Why arn't Controllers Sexy

I am playing a psion in the D&D Encounters series and really getting a kick out of shoving stuff all over the place with him. I too don't like the wizard much, seems like a wimp compared to other choices out there, but then, when has a low level wizard ever really been much more than a wimp...

    D&D Essentials--Session 9

You mean Encounters, right? I can tell you what I remember of the beholder runt, but the full stat block is at home: Central Eye - Minor at will, no attack needed, target gains vuln 5 psychic and if they are hit they are dazed till end of beholder next turn Eye rays - two attacks, random...

[Arts & Crafts] DIY dungeon tiles - printing & mounting advice

With the new Dungeon Tiles Master Set coming out soon, they are not supposed to go out of print, and there will be an wilderness/forest set included. Certainly I would refrain from spending $50 on a set until those come out and you can see what they look like (for $20).

[Arts & Crafts] DIY dungeon tiles - printing & mounting advice

I usually use something similar to chipboard. I would suggest the double thick. I use the single thick but glue stacks of them together to make them 4 thick (about the thickness of dungeon tiles). If you want really durable, I suggest using masonite (also called "hardboard"). You should be...

HS1 - The Slaying Stone - my poor reviewing skills review

I ran H1 as my first 4E adventure, so I can sort of compare. Note that I haven't read all the encounters yet for HS1, but here is right off the bat: It seems like much less of a dungeon crawl. One thing with H1 was that there was an awful lot of crawling through a dungeon of interconnected...

    Actions After Making Saves

I think you were right. You can't take any actions at the end of your turn, which is where the saving throw happens. And spending an action point is actually an action (PHB 269)
