    Shadowdark Shadowdark General Thread [+]

Point taken though I don't think I'm hating and I don't think my OP was some kind of hate on the play style. I think you're overreacting.

    Shadowdark Shadowdark General Thread [+]

My first post in this thread and it's "kinda weird"? I mean, I'm expressing an opinion about lethality in the game and it's an open forum. I don't think I'm threadcapping. Is this thread limited to positive only?

    Shadowdark Shadowdark General Thread [+]

Silmarily, I think SD and lethality of OSR make for a terrible introduction to fantasy rpgs. I'm trying to teach my kids the power of imagination and magical empowerment, not dying in a dank dungeon without having done anything of note. Feels like older millennials and Gen X trying to recapture...

How Will The New Tariffs Affect TTRPG Prices?

I'm so tired of the god-damn chaos that the current administration is bringing to our little corner of the economy.

Critical Role Announces Age of Umbra Daggerheart Campaign, Starting May 29th

I certainly do NOT hope Daggerheart fails. I really want it to succeed in a huge way. A big fantasy rpg that tries to bridge gameplay between rules-rich and narrative-heavy sounds awesome. I want it to feel different than D&D and I think it succeeds in doing that in the few games I've tried with...

Critical Role Announces Age of Umbra Daggerheart Campaign, Starting May 29th

8 parts is fine and they haven't yet announced what system they're using for their Next Big Thing but I'm a bit surprised if that's the showcase campaign for their heavily promoted Daggerheart system. Maybe they want to see the viewership numbers (and sales numbers) if they step away from 5e...

    High-quality systemless books [+]

Greg Stolze's Spherewalker Sourcebook is among the hobby's greatest volume of fantastical ideas. It was written for Everway back in the day but really it's just a cornucopia of amazing bits and pieces - lore, factions, geography, ecology, etc. Whenever I world build over the years, I've taken...

I've never heard of this book. It looks great... thanks for pointing it out.

Dungeon World Gets New Owners, Second Edition Planned

The fact that it is distancing itself from OSR is a big win for me. I never loved DW 1e because of how closely it adhered to really archaic ideas.

I am surprised I am still excited for Daggerheart

Every time people bring up Daggerheart as a fantasy heartbreaker that will get no support (as evidenced by nothing, I will add), I'll point to the DC20 RPG as the 100% better example example of a game with no future and supplying no real reason for anyone concerned about a game line to buy the...

Best superhero movie of all time? (Nominations thread)

Love original Superman movie for the pure romanticism of it. Infinity War has my vote as the best supers action flick. The whole thing is a masterpiece of propulsive storytelling, spectacular sequences, and emotional payoff. Plus it ends with the greatest cliffhanger in supers history.

GrimWild Remixes A Few Heavy Hitters Into Something Unique

@Faolyn you said "you misspelled" to @SteveC like he wrote the game. Or am I missing something here?

GrimWild Remixes A Few Heavy Hitters Into Something Unique

I feel like Grimwild is what I wanted from Shadowdark (and most of OSR anything). I want game mechanics to actually support behavior, not a mother-may-approach to rules-lite. Also, I like Grimwild a LOT more than Dungeon World which never felt all that satisfying of a game for me - it never...

    Outgunned Superheroes

@Whizbang Dustyboots thanks for clarifying the Broken Compass/Outgunned situation. I didn't quite know what was going on.

Invincible RPG Announced by Free League

This is an auto-purchase for me. I'm very curious how Free League's 'streamline' approach to design will be implemented here. Plus their games are super pretty. I read Invincible and like it but don't care about running a campaign in that universe; rather, I'm curious how that setting's injury...

Warhammer Fantasy The Old World RPG (TOW) is not WFRP Revised

They specifically cited how they wanted to lessen the impact lore-nerds had on play. They felt people who knew a vast amount of setting lore would tend to dominate actual play so by changing the setting of this new rpg, they could get everyone on more equal footing. I appreciate their efforts...

    New generic contemporary/urban fantasy?

I agree, it is nuts. A couple years ago I went looking for a modern urban fantasy kitchen sink game published in the past few years that I could use that wasn't rules-light and I found only a couple rpgs that begin to fit that description. One of them was Wicked Pacts. I ended up not using it...

Huh. How did you get that from this announcement?

Possum Creek Joins Steve Jackson Games as New RPG Imprint

SJ Games feels like a dead end when it comes to game design. I'm glad for Jay Dragon et. al. and hope it works for them but does SJ want to do anything other than iterations of Munchkin? I would love to see SJ Games publish a big new rpg that has nothing to do with Gurps (which also feels like...

Critical Role To Wrap Up Third Campaign, New Exandria Unlimited Miniseries Announced

I think CR will continue to use their campaigns going forward as springboards for more TV shows, films and video games because the money involved in those expansions of the IP are hugely significant. For Campaign 4? No, they have NOT confirmed they're sticking with D&D. But I can very well see...
