    Tell Me About DC20

I saw that he had been positive on the game from months ago - I recall the video.

    Tell Me About DC20

Bob Worldbuilder is seemingly one of the few YT channels that admitted that Dungeon Coach was sponsoring them via an affiliate link to the DC20 Kickstarter. As far as I can tell, the referring YT channel can earn money according to 3 metrics: Click-Through Rate (CTR): The percentage of viewers...

How Do We Measure A Game's Success?

How I measure success of an rpg: Does it have a community? Are people playing it? Do I see players engaging in conversation about it? This is why 7th Sea 2e is such a colossal disappointment - a huge KS but I see few people playing it or talking about it. I think it's not a success...

DC20 Kickstarter launch on June 4th

Nah. 13th Age has put out a ton of well-regarded content over the past decade. The other games you mentioned are like 15-20 years old and even then there wasn’t a lot of content.

DC20 Kickstarter launch on June 4th

It's hitting a place in the market where a segment of folks are bored with 5e (and, really, 5.24 doesn't look super different at this point ) but those people want that 5e-but-better experience. Whatever better means. ...and then there's the segment of people who are just kind of overwhelmed by...

Mike Mearls joins Chaosium as Executive Producer

I'm looking forward to what he brings to Chaosium and wish him and the company well. I love Chaosium, but I have to say, Cubicle 7 needs him more! Feels like those people have been super slow delivering product since the end of the pandemic. (I love C7, and while I'm poking fun at their product...

DC20 Kickstarter launch on June 4th

Yea, it could be cool and fill a niche between 5e and P2e in terms of options and complexity, though Level Up exactly does that now. From what I've seen of it, it seems to be heavily house-ruled 5e so I'm hoping it can be its own thing. I don't love that Dungeon Coach's experience with gaming...

    Tell Me About DC20

I love his enthusiasm but I'm not sure that's quite enough for me. Our DM bought the Dungeon Coach's (very expensive) pdf of 5e hacks and house rules a couple years back and there were a lot of interesting ideas in there but in practice, at the gaming table, quite a few of them were game...

    Daggerheart 1.3 playtest dropping Tuesday.

I think them including optional rules only makes the game more accessible for more people. Glad to see them putting in other ways to play the game and I don't think it means they're taking a step back from their original intentions. I agree that 'optimizers' left to their own devices will turn...

    D&D 5E (2014) People don't read the 5E DMG for a reason

See, my thing is if you want to solve the "DM crisis" (I don't think there is one really, most people are just lazy), combine the PHB and the DMG into one book and about 1000% more people will actually at least skim if not read the DM part of the book. Don't put in another hurdle for folks...

    D&D 5E (2014) Dynamic start for a 1-shot?

You’re both in a tavern! …that’s on fire. …from the Dragon. Roll initiative.

Any possibility of deleting that misinformation post? It’s the sort of crap that’s caused the pandemic to perpetuate.

D&D General Best VTT for the most players?

Surprised no has mentioned shmeppy.com which is a super barebones mapper. If you're just used to showing up to your face to face games with blank grid paper and some minis, you might like it. I think Roll20 is a phenomenal tool... but it's way too much for me and tempts me to spending huge...

Critical Role [+] What does Wildemount do that Forgotten Realms doesn't?

Having read the through the Wildemount guide, I'm a huge fan and have started a campaign. To be clear, I'm not at all a Critter... I've listened to 10 minutes of one Crit Role ep. I think Wildemount does a great job of feeling like a classic D&D setting but turns a lot of traditional tropes...

D&D 5E (2014) Mining Curse of Strahd for my non-horror homebrew setting?

Thanks everybody for your excellent replies. Sounds like I should purchase this!

D&D 5E (2014) Mining Curse of Strahd for my non-horror homebrew setting?

I run a Middle-earth adjacent 5e campaign. There's plenty of magic, so it's not nearly as low-fantasy as ME, but it's got a fairly grounded tone even with 5e as the engine. But to be sure, it's heroic fantasy and not horror. My question: will I be able to mine 5e's Curse of Strahd sourcebook...

Frank Mentzer's Worlds of Empyrea Kickstarter to be Rebooted!

I don't care how "foundational" Frank's work is to the hobby, given his alleged sexually harassing behavior towards former Paizo project coordinator Jessica Price (which she documented on Twitter) and his awful threats to destroy Dragonsfoot (which, they too documented), I won't be supporting...

    D&D 5E (2014) What sci-fantasy resources are there for my home-brew?

I'm not super knowledgable about what there is out there for 5e. I know I love this edition and a 2 year campaign I ran of it went incredibly well. But now I've got a home-brew setting in mind that involves lots of sci-fantasy ideas. Not fantasy space-opera but a fantasy world with a...

D&D Increases Its Lead In Orr Groups Q3 2015 Report

Absolutely. It's why they veered into minis back in the day after starting with D&D 3.0 products. I can't fault PP at all -- I think they developed a big, beautiful rpg with the new IK but even if it had been a lot more popular, PP's ROI is far, far greater with minis.
