    the trick is...

In a WEG Star Wars game I played in once, another character and I were assualted after walking into a warehouse. We were looking for a rebel agent being held captive by Imps so we could rescue him. As the assault starts we duck behind some crates and I pull a thermal detonator and toss it...

    the trick is...

...to be prepared to wing it when the PCs zig instead of zagging. ...to never, ever, ever kill your wife's character (someone else said this, but it deserves a repeat) ...to never, ever, show favoritism to your wife's character hunter1828

Food you would find at a D&D Tavern

Beaver tail is actually quite high in fat content and was considered a delicacy by mountain men, fur traders and Indians of the North American west. Spit it over a fire and singe the scales loose, scrape them off, then boil or fry the tail. Enjoy. Another common food: tongue. Beef tongue...

    Star Elves

Ah! Yes, fey'ri...actually my favorite "new" elf varient. I think the Moonshae elves aren't really a seperate subrace, just a distinct culture group like the Wood/Wild elves of the Wealdath. Racial overtones? Ah, yes...playing a member of a race that is bent on the absolute domination...

Hmmm...lessee here: Wood Elves Wild Elves Moon Elves Sun Elves Aquatic Elves Drow Elves Lythari (elf werewolves) Star Elves Avariel (winged elves) Half-elves (with the differences between half-surface elves, half-drow & half-aquatic elves) Did I leave anything out? You know, I love the...

    How "Human-centric" is your campaign/setting?

I use the Forgotten Realms campaign setting, and it is fairly human-centric. That said the PCs and NPCs in the current campaign I'm running consists of: a male Moon Elf a female Moon Elf a male half-Moon Elf a male Gold Dwarf a male half-Gold Elf a female human another male half-Moon Elf another...

Rate the stereotype - do you raid dungeons?

There's always a reason they are there, such as another adventuring company disappeared while expoloring the dungeon that PCs prime motivation is to find them/find out what happened to them or they stumble across ruins while deep in the wilderness and seek shelter from the elements/food for the...

[New Spell] Speak With Monsters - Rgr4/Drd4

The way you've edited it looks ok to me...making sure to use creatures instead of animals gets rid of the game stat issue on animals. hunter1828

Anyone not using fiendish dire axiomatic half-celestial undead half-pixie owlbears?

I've used a very few fiendish templates to up some minor animals to make them evil (they probably come from Dr. Evil's Evil Petting Zoo). Other than that, I tend to give goblins, orcs, and other such foes class levels (rogue, warrior or fighter usually...though a goblin ranger was a tough one...

As you got sucked in to D&D, when did you know?

From the moment my dad gave me the old blue box Basic set back in 1978. As soon as I read it I knew. hunter1828

    Does anyone do non-overpowered anymore?

I should also add that the campaign is 3 1/2 years old now, and the highest level character is 14 and two characters are only 10th level. hunter1828

    Does anyone do non-overpowered anymore?

My players pick skills, feats and PrCs for their characters that make sense for them to do, not just because it gives them an advantage. One player has a wizard that just took a level in the Candle Caster (she prefers "Spellchandler") PrC from Tome and Blood. Not a lot of call for candles that...

How vivid is the violence in your game?

Most times, I don't get very graphic, but I'm simply conserving time by not slowing down, even a few seconds, for unnecessary descriptions. On criticals, though, I can get quite graphic. I've had more than one player respond with "Gross," "Ewwww," or "That's disgusting...but cool!" hunter1828

    XP for Missing Players

My standard rule I've always used in any edition, from 1st to 3.5, is that a player that lets me know ahead of time they can't make it receives 1/2 the normally calculated XP for the session. A player that just doesn't show up receives 0 XP. hunter1828
