    D&D 5E (2014) 2/25/2013 L&L: This Week in D&D

For me, it wouldn't take much to address this whole healing issue. "Unless severely wounded, PCs recover a percentage of their total Hit Points over a period of time stipulated by the Dungeon Master. For instance: 10% for each 8 hours of rest. Severe wounds reduce your maximum HP until treated...

    D&D 5E (2014) Skills & Proficiencies

The skill dice mechanic is interesting, but I don't know... it seems the d20 system is replaced by a (d20+xdy) system, which is... weird. :/ It might work though, so I'm cautiously optimistic.

D&D 5E (2014) So, have we missed the boat on simple character creation?

True. I suppose I can be considered am a casual player by now, since I haven't played in years (and it feels me with shame to even acknoledge that!), but I'm on enworld at least thrice a week, so I don't think I'm your typical casual player. I don't need an incentive to play D&D other than an...

    Expertise Dice

Agreed, unless some maneuvers state you get more/bigger dice if you're wielding a two-handed weapon. Or maybe some powerful maneuvers are restricted to weapons with a minimum dice size. If there's no such thing, then you're 100% correct.

    Expertise Dice

I can understand where people are coming from when they complain that Expertise Dice for all (martial) classes is boring, but the way I see it, if you call them "slots" and rename maneuvers as "spells", then we already have a similar system for all (magical) classes. And that didn't ruin the...

    Sorceror eats Favoured Soul

I'd be more than ok with that. If we loosen up the Power Source from the spell (i.e., it doesn't matter who/what is powering your fireball or cure light wounds, the effects/keywords are the same), just tweaking the spell list accordingly is enough to have multiple concepts of spontaneous...

    Dice

I see what you mean. Even the designers see what you mean, or we wouldn't have DnD minis and boardgames using only a single d20 - and boardgames are where you can go mad with lots of special dice! I'd also like to use more of the "weird rpg dice" at the table, but I prefer the unified mechanic...

    New Sorcerors are too "vulgar"

I think we just need some time to adjust to the concept. Sure, I like the "sorcerer is just a spontaneous casting wizard" approach, because the fluff can be as broad as "wizard" or "fighter", but in the end, the sorcerer in the playtest has great potential. My only concern is how to emulate the...

That's no Sorcerer, that's a Paladin (of Bahamut) kinda.. sorta

I feel weird about this sorcerer too. Mechanically it's very interesting, as it reminds me of 4e Essentials Barbarian who would switch roles mid fight. Fluff-wise, it's weird because not even the warlock seem as flavor heavy as the sorcerer. I understand and accept everything they say in its...

    Warlock: Eldritch Blast

It looks high to me, but as others have pointed out, it's not *that* high (and they were "strikers", partly anyway) - which is the point of the playtest. It will probably scale damage or change type, range etc, with a few feats, class features, or invocations (remember 3.5 had upgrades), but...

Is the Sorcerer Story Too Narrow for a Base Class?

Am I the only one seeing Dragon Age abominations in this "new" Sorcerer class? :P

New playtest and feats...did I miss something?

I caught on that too, but... is that by design? I don't know, I'm suspiciously weary this was somehow overlooked...

I keep Tinkerbell's head in an old ladies coin purse.

well, let me take a shot: if the warlock got to epic levels, then we could say he's absorbed so much power from his master to the point that he himself become "magical" and couldn't really be stripped of his powers - at least not all of it. Perhaps the dark lord didn't really notice his rapid...

    Rule-of-Three: 07/03/2012

Not sure, but didn't they mention combat maneuvers would be available to everyone, but the fighter (as a class, not an extra theme) would be better at them? If a rogue takes a maneuver theme (or individual feats) then he'd be able to do the move, but not as good as the fighter would (with the...

    Testing, 1, 2, 3, 4

Yes. That's what I think is the most enlightening part of the article: HOW to submit your feedback. Certainly, Shelly is not the typical D&D player, but that doesn't mean she can't or shouldn't get her voice heard. Same thing with us: don't like something, tell them about it! Don't complain that...

    Fighters Surge, thoughts

I'd be fine with that. I like it, it makes sense for the fighter to own the battlefield in a reactive sort of way. That said, I agree that the "2/day" restriction feels weird, gamist and is hard to explain in game, but... OMG, it's so simple! And accomplishes the same thing, with so many fewer...

    Druid or Cleric?

Maybe that's the thing: using both tweaked mechanics and tweaked flavor to create a class out of another. It may be too many tweaks for some people. I like to have a distinction between Nature magic and Divine magic, so as long as they also have distinct mechanics, I vote for two classes.

Probably not the best approach to promote the "Theater of the Mind" play style among newcomers... ;)

    Spell scaling

I suppose Sleep in a higher level slot would increase the HP threshold (15, 20...).
