For me, it's the build. At level 9 I finally get Whirlwind attack, at level 15 I can cast quickened Divine Power, and so on. At the same time, I do enjoy the "now" of adventures, but more so as a DM than a player. Maybe because I am so focused on the "next" level as a player?

I never write boxed text for my own adventures, that's for sure. I use the type of shorthand you would use on a cheat sheet for a speech or an exam. As little text as possible, with as much information as possible. Full sentences aren't a good idea in either instance. The work I want to be done...

The problem with boxed text is that it gets read when it's not appropriate. For instance if the room is pitch black, the troll already ate the Thief, then got eaten, and so on.
