If you heard the term "crunch renaissance"...

... I would think of the Renaissance, and wonder what crunch had to do with it. I am familiar with the OSR term, but as Old School Revival, not Renaissance. In other words, it doesn't make much sense to me.

D&D 5E (2014) Do we really need so many classes with Extra Attack?

I am assuming you never took the "Come and get it" power for your fighter? Or the daily that auto-damages everybody that starts adjacent? The 4e fighter is the fighter that most closely resembles the casters in powers when comparing editions. Anyway, I think multiple attacks and no area attacks...

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D Next Q&A: 02/28/2014

I think it's important to take note of what they now call metamagic is: "the ability to alter the way a spell works on the fly". In other words, they have taken the metamagic of 3e and used it in another meaning. In 3e it could also mean that a wizard prepared a metamagic'd spell in advance. I...

    D&D 5E (2014) No Cantrips Module

Maybe a couple of extra level one spells? With those and a dagger or crossbow they should be about on par with the ones using at-will pew-pew.

    D&D 5E (2014) Splitting your Move - The Move-Attack-Move Dynamic

Sounds like a good idea. Is there any reason not to allow this in 4e?

D&D 5E (2014) Does 5E have to be available as a PDF for you to consider buying it?

I don't have to zoom to be able to read, but I prefer something that's as large as possible. Try reading this one for instance: http://www.dndclassics.com/pdf_preview_handler.php?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwatermark.dndclassics.com%2Fpdf_previews%2F16880-sample.pdf on my tablet there is quite a bit of not...

A business/industry you would not work in?

I would avoid anything involving data entry.

D&D 5E (2014) Character Concepts you cannot make in 5E

Looking at your first character, you want it to have the advantage of light armor (more maneuverable) and be better at social skills than a regular fighter. You don't get something for nothing though, so you will have to make some sacrifices. Either less damage or worse AC. The point buy system...

D&D 5E (2014) Does 5E have to be available as a PDF for you to consider buying it?

Nah, I am using a 10" tablet, same as you. I do find it annoying that the pdf always uses less than 100% of the screen area (Letter being the worst format). For a pdf in letter format I have to zoom and to flip between the pages without resetting the zoom I have to use the volume buttons. The...

D&D 5E (2014) Does 5E have to be available as a PDF for you to consider buying it?

The problems I have with pdf's are that they are created for one paper size, not for assorted screen sizes. There are no tablets with Letter or A4 format. In addition, the typical pdf has a lot of margins that you don't really need on a tablet (they already have "margins" around the screen)...

D&D 5E (2014) Does 5E have to be available as a PDF for you to consider buying it?

I would appreciate having the rules in PDF format, but I would prefer something better suited to use on a tablet.

    D&D 5E (2014) Poisons in Next

I really like this idea as it should create some tension: can the character outlast the poison? Does he need help? If he needs help, how fast does he need it? It kind of reminds me of the effects the ring had on Frodo in LoTR, he was slowly but surely losing willpower. He could be helped by...

D&D 5E (2014) Clarification on Next basics (attack & damage rolls and bounded accuracy)

I am not mistaken, the cap for a PC stats is 20, so a +5 bonus.

D&D 4E What are the options for living without DDI?

I really do think you have got a good point here. 4e is so verbose, that to create certain character concepts, you have to sift through thousands of pages to get the feats, items and powers that makes that character concept work. The last session I ran 4e as a DM, I used some cardboard...

Rules heavy = bad; light = good

My previous post got a bit rambling and DnD focused, so here's a more general one. I like bounded accuracy. I have never seen it in play, but I believe it's a good thing. I like leveling. I don't want my skills/abilities/spells to increase, I want to be able to do new things firstly. Getting a...

Rules heavy = bad; light = good

I really prefer what is referred to as rules heavy games. Like DnD. Actually, I am almost exclusively a DnD player. I have played: Basic, AD&D 2nd ed, 3e, 3.5 and 4e. What makes it for me is the asymmetrical class design. 4e is kind of lacking in that respect with it's AEDU setup and the...

    D&D 5E (2014) Wandering "Monsters": Magic Items

In D&D terms, that's more like a no-magic setting than a low-magic one. It's not like it's something that has a common definition, so they are probably going with what they think are right for D&D. Looking at the poll results, it seems they hit quite well, but it's not as if you are wrong if you...

    D&D 5E (2014) Wandering "Monsters": Magic Items

4 permanent magic items at level 20, yeah, that's low magic to me. At level 5 you would might have one magic item. What's low magic to you?

    D&D 5E (2014) Wandering "Monsters": Magic Items

Nothing like a game system which spells out the creators assumptions. Quite a bit better than the game systems that just assumes you are a mind reader... What I really like about the article is that they have dialed waaaay back on magic item assumptions for 5e. 3e and 4e was quite a bit over...

What can ruin a Game more; Poor GMing or a Bad Player

I don't enjoy playing with a bad DM, because he's the only DM. I can enjoy playing with a bad player, because there are usually several other players that I do enjoy playing with. Also, a good DM will often shift the focus away from the bad player and make the game enjoyable anyway. If I could...
