I have just run my three first D&D 5e sessions. Firstly, explaining the rules to old D&D players is really easy. It works just as before, except that you can't 5' step, you have to use the withdraw action. Running the game is a breeze. Most enemies go down in one or two hits at level 1...

My suggestion: a) drop big box*, keep two-column format b) keep big box, switch back to old one-column format. Btw, maybe removing the "xxxx/yyyy views" text on each article. It basically just clutters the front page taking up space, pushing news further down. *The one with 7 news item in it.

I think getting your dex up to 18 is the best use of the level 4 feature. +1 to hit, damage, AC, Dex save, initiative and a bunch of skills is pretty darned good. If you have 17 starting dex, you could take the Resilient feat for +1dex and proficiency with dex saves, or +2 to dex, or +1 to dex...

It's the same version as when you first tested. In other words, they just haven't deployed a new version yet. I still think it's months before they are done though. ;)

Make your pit-trap look like a nice stretch of road. Make it look like there is a small bridge over the stream. Make it look like the entrance to the house is boarded up. Make a wall behind you in the alley as you run on. Make the noise of a cavalry charge around the corner. (Minor illusion)...

I think it will make more sense in 5e, especially when it comes to the orcs. I am going to run the 4e version, but that's because I think the current characters in the campaign are so cool in 4e ;-)

I usually run premade modules, and I think you are right. It's easier to add your own stuff if the module is easy to comprehend. I do think that some effort is needed outside normal gameplay, otherwise you very quickly end up in the position of the OP.

5e is still in the starting pit. I haven't gotten the MM yet, and the DMG isn't even published. I am a pretty happy 4e player and am going to start up my first 5e game in the next two weeks. It's basically going to be a test-run of the system in our thursday night game.

Then I don't think D&D is the game for you, because it's really far away for being a simulation. HP for instance, makes little sense.

Depends on the terrain. Typically pre made modules assumes encounters start much too close. Try to vary the encounter distance to let different characters shine.

I would buy digital content equal in amount to the PHB for around 20$. It's about what I payed for the physical PHB without the printing costs. (I payed 30$, printing in WotC-volume probably cost around 5-10$). There are some books I would probably buy in paper-format (Campaign setting, DMG)...

I agree, there is no reason for the web version being sub optimal.

Because you are using a windows tablet like the surface? I am not as much reviewing the app as much as I am noting how far I think the app has to go. It feels more like an alpha than a beta since so many features are missing. Getting responses like: "This will be hard to do at this stage"...

The web version is even worse on a touch screen tablet than on a pc.
