    Some Thoughts on Campaign/Game Design

I'm not entirely sure this is true in my experiences. I've been in games that seemed very fast-paced, and had few encounters per session. Other games had lots and lots of encounters per session, and seemed very slow-paced. Cheers, Roger

    "loseing is not cost effective"

You're playing it right. I think this is one of those things that'll work itself out as your group learns the system. Want to spend all your dailies on the way to the dungeon? That's fine. The impact that has on your next encounter, or on your travel plans, is something you'll need to learn...

    Multiclass: Racial Heritage

Okay, if we assume you can't multirace into your own race, things get a little less weird. Humans are still weird, though. I'm not sure it's possible to qualify to multirace into them. If it is, then it's free, which is still a little weird. Cheers, Roger

    Monster Stats for Centipedes?

They're both in the new SRD, so they're on their way... Cheers, Roger

    Multiclass: Racial Heritage

It's sort of strange that being a half-dragonborn dwarf is not equivalent to being a half-dwarf dragonborn. It's pretty strange being a half-elf half-elf or a half-half-elf elf. It's really strange being a half-human human. Cheers, Roger

    companions

I took a swing at reskinning the beastmaster into a henchman-hiring leader a little while ago: Beastmaster, Meet the Henchmaster « Stirges Suck I'm currently running this sort of ranger in a PbP game; seems to be working out well so far. Cheers, Roger

Level 1 hard encounter: white or black young dragon?

Draconomicon (and Compendium) have black dragons down to Lvl 2 Elite, so that's another option. Cheers, Roger

    Attribute Effects on Concept/Appearance

This is so far outside of my experiences that I don't really have much to say, other than, well, it hasn't been remotely an issue for the people I play with. Cheers, Roger

The nature of "realism" in the game world

I find myself skeptical of this. Cheers, Roger

    GSL NPC/Monster Blocks

My opinion on such things is that one is better off building custom powers and abilities for non-PC entities anyway, even if the GSL didn't encourage it quite so strongly. I might make a slight exception for artifacts that grant class powers, but that's about the only one that comes to mind...

help me out here...what to play the first time

I'm also inclined to recommend swordmage. At the risk of being shamelessly self-promoting, my 5-part blog series on how and why I built my swordmage might be useful to you. It starts with My Life as a Swordmage (1/5): Class Details « Stirges Suck Multiclassing into wizard right away might be...

    GSL NPC/Monster Blocks

This is from the SRD, which I hope will clear up things: For example, you may not reprint the statistics of a kobold wyrmpriest or the lich template in a Licensed Product, nor may you define these 4E References. You may, however, print a kobold wyrmpriest lich that you create and that is...

Running and Shooting at the same time?

In addition to the above good advice, a character could do something like this by spending an Action Point. Cheers, Roger

    The Apprentices: A 1st level all-wizard one-shot

I imagine it could be made to work. Even when one-shots don't "work" per se, they often fail in spectacularly amusing ways. Cheers, Roger

I concur. It allows for use of material from all the core books, including those two. Cheers, Roger

    GSL NPC/Monster Blocks

Looks compliant to me. The only thing that might be a little marginal is the Mace entry; although I doubt anyone would complain that you're redefining the Mace, I prefer to qualify things a bit more in my own works, by calling it a 'Mace of Velun' or 'Thundersmasher' or some darn thing...

That isn't consistent with my reading of the GSL, but YMMV. Cheers, Roger

    Contracting A Disease?

The deal with this is that the rules use the verb "contract" in a very... unusual way. The glossary entry in the MM for "Disease" should clear up any confusion. Cheers, Roger
