    Expeditionary Dispatches: Dolurrh's Dawn

This is so not covered by The Rule of Cool. DM: You arrive at the village. The guard motions for you to enter. There's no gate; they throw down a rope. Player A: A rope? The hell? Alright, I guess I try to drag my platemailed-butt up there... nope, missed the roll. I fall down on my...

    Expeditionary Dispatches: Dolurrh's Dawn

Some neat ideas, but this just seemed silly: There are no gates in the wall. Ropes are used by those agile enough to climb, while a makeshift stretcher-and-pulley system allows larger objects to be brought up and over the stockade. Being a farmer in this town must suck. Time to plow the fields...

    Fey step query

Hmmm. It's a bit tricky. The range is personal. But you don't show up naked, as far as I know. All your gear comes along with you. So can you pick up a dwarf and step away? Is dragging him sufficient? Does carrying a dwarf corpse work, but a live dwarf doesn't? I'm not sure. Cheers, Roger

Building a Hazard: A Creeping Forest

Hmmm. This is kind of tricky. I think I need to know the answer to "How are the PCs supposed to 'win' this encounter?" If it's a question of running away or otherwise escaping, that's fine, but I'm not sure it is. Cheers, Roger

4e--can you write a novel using it?

It was Conan's savage instinct which made him wheel suddenly; for the death that was upon them made no sound. A fleeting glimpse showed the Cimmerian the giant tawny shape, rearing upright against the stars, towering over him for the death-stroke. No civilized man could have moved half so...

    Modular encounter Areas!

You're going to implement Frogger in 4E? Best idea I've heard all day. Rock on. Cheers, Roger

4e--can you write a novel using it?

The impact tore his wounds and dazed him for an instant. Conan fought the rushing tide of blackness, sick and dizzy, but realized that the iron muscles that sheathed his vitals had saved him from permanent injury. -- "A Witch Shall Be Born", by Robert E. Howard. Cheers, Roger

    Modular encounter Areas!

This is more-or-less what I've tried to do with Points of Conflict; I have two modular encounters currently for free download: http://roger.carbol.com/rpg/4e/poc/poc.htm I don't mind if they're linked to from the Wiki; I'd rather they weren't actually hosted or mirrored there, all other things...

Neat! Did you freehand all that? Cheers, Roger

    Daggers & Deviltry

Thanks for the write-up -- entertaining as always. Feels nice to be able to sneak-attack undead, eh? Cheers, Roger

    Best skill challenge ever.

Sounds pretty sweet. Can you comment on how much of the action was pro-active stunts initiated by the players, and how much was in reaction to DM offers? If it was all one big collaborative affair, that's a fair answer too. Cheers, Roger

    Werecabbage legal cohort

I'm not sure I understand why this isn't purely an internal matter for the Werecabbage members. Cheers, Roger

My players having more fun than me

What do you like about DMing that you're not getting, and what do you not like about DMing that you find yourself being forced into? Cheers, Roger

That was intentional, as I has a lot to cram on there and, as you mention, the minis still fit. I hadn't thought about using them on top of an accurate 1" grid play mat, although it's obvious in retrospect. If you want, I can post the original graphics images, so you can then print them off...

    Falling into water?

If I were inclined to house rule this, which I'm not sure I am, I might try: Existing Rule: * Athletics Skill: Reduce Falling Damage: Free action if you fall or a move action if you jump down. Damage Reduced: Make an Acrobatics check, and reduce the amount of falling damage you take by...

    Is it fun??

For an average party of 5 PCs, all of them failing a saving throw would happen less than 2% of the time. I'm not sure I'd want to hang a lot of the adventure or a lot of prep time work on something that's so unlikely to see play. Cheers, Roger

    Good town maps

I ran something very similar last Halloween, using Gummi Bears as zombie minis. It was a lot of fun. The map I used was The Village of Eastbrook from Heroes of Horror. Cheers, Roger
