D&D 5E (2014) How do you run Warding Bond and Protection from Energy or Poison combination

Hmmm. Yeah, I'd probably be pretty okay with ruling that Warding Bond, despite its wording, doesn't really provide resistance in the usual sense of the term; each party takes half the damage, so it's more of a damage redistribution. If they want to get really carried away and drop Energy Prot...

D&D 5E (2014) Describe for me a City of Illusion

It's pretty much the city of The Omega Man. One crazy illusionist dude, busy making friends. PCs might find the lack of interactivity a bit creepy, depending on how carried away Omega Illusionist has gotten with the programming. Cheers, Roger

    D&D 5E (2014) Moonbeam, Am I reading it right?

This thread makes it sound like people are using Moonbeam for purposes other than cosplaying Sailor Moon. That can't be right. Cheers, Roger

D&D 5E (2014) Clerics of Life: Broken, Bad Design, or Working as Intended?

I can get behind the smarter monsters concentrating fire on the cleric of life. Just shoot the guys carrying holy symbols. Cheers, Roger

    D&D 5E (2014) Henchmen

Hrm. At a quick glance I'd probably give her 6 levels of 'dragon', so another 9Kxp to become a real wizard.

    D&D 5E (2014) What lowish level Dungeon Magazine adventures work well with 5E? (issues 1 - 150)

Trouble at Grog's from #4 is pretty classic; I'd probably start by giving it serious consideration, anyway.

D&D 5E (2014) Potions of Healing (and other common magical items)

    1. That seems to have been working fine for me so far. 2. I dunno. Yes, no, maybe; I have no idea. 3. Sort of. As far as I can tell from the treasure tables, potions of healing are about twice as common as 1st-level scrolls and about five times more common than cantrip scrolls, so I've...

    D&D 5E (2014) Azers?

I think I've got a modern translation of the old creation myth around here somewhere... MORADIN: yo hey bro check it out I has an azer CORELLON LARETHIAN: lol whut M: imma gonna let these little guys loose CL: moronid whut r u doin CL: marodan stahp CL: yur d00d fell face-first into a...

    D&D 5E (2014) So, 5e OGL

I'm cautiously-optimistic based on the Goodman Games products, among others. As far as I can tell, WotC is not unleashing the Kraken upon unlicensed 5E products. That in itself is probably good enough news for everyone involved. Furthermore, it leads me to hope that they may be crafting a...

    D&D 5E (2014) Rarity and Creating Scrolls

Nope; consumable items are half the price. Can't cite the page number right this moment, but I'm quite sure it's in there. That's why the potion of healing is only 50gp, for example.

    D&D 5E (2014) Easter Eggs in 5E

Anyone rolling a '10' on the Treasure Horde: Challenge 11-16 table is in for a big surprise. Cheers, Roger

D&D 5E (2014) So how does 5e treat Staffs and Wands?

The old-style finite-charge wands are basically a sack of scrolls, so you could implement them this way, or reskin it. New wands are a lot like small staves, if you want to think of them that way. Except a couple of staves that turn into snakes. Also everyone's favourite the Wand of Wonder is...

D&D 5E (2014) Mage Hand and the No Good, Low Down, Dirty Rotten Arcane Trickster

Enhhh this seems like the weaksauce to me. What kind of lame trap doesn't kill everyone within 60', anyway. The Mage Hand Legerdemain feature seems pretty clear to me that this is operating as designed.

    D&D 5E (2014) Agility-based katana wielder: is it possible?

Sure; go ahead. No houseruling required. Just do it. There's no rule stopping him.

    D&D 5E (2014) What is the logic behind one 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th level spell?

I blame intensive-lobbying from the powerful Scroll Scribing guild.

    D&D 5E (2014) Rating the 1st level Wizard Spells

This is a good idea. Let's see... Alarm: In the unlikely event you have no friends that you can talk into taking the night watch, or the much more likely event that they're all terrible at keeping watch, this spell will keep you safe. Safe-ish. Alright it's better than taking a hobgoblin...

D&D 5E (2014) Let's break the Ring of Spell Storing

Off the top of my head, I'd be inclined to hand out a Ring of Spell Storing charged up with Raise Dead. What will the players do? Keep the spell around if they need it, making the ring kinda useless until then? Or throw the spell and its 500gp component away and hope that no one important...

D&D 5E (2014) How many (ancient) dragons would it take to destroy a (dwarven) city?

Implausible as far as scenarios involving 50-ton flying fire-breathing reptiles go, anyway.

D&D 5E (2014) Skilled contests and advice wanted

You could try using static contests. If you want to see a Contest of Strength, you don't need to roll anything -- you just compare Strengths and whoever is the strongest is the strongest. Same thing with archery, etc. Cheers, Roger

D&D 5E (2014) Next DMG Sneak Preview is Up! Figurine of Wondrous Power!

For obvious reasons, I'm happy to see the Ivory Goats are still around. Also, I suppose if someone really really wants to play a summoner character, the way some people do, a big sack of Figurines would do. I'll put in a vote for Robe of Useful Boats. Cheers, Roger
