    D&D 5E (2014) Preview: Intellect Devourer

I'd probably let a player keep playing a brain-eaten barbarian PC if he wanted to and if the rest of the party was cool with it. Might be fun.

    D&D 5E (2014) How to stop a Thief

Put one of those hunting traps in there. He didn't really need those fingers anyway.

    D&D 5E (2014) Preview: Intellect Devourer

Here: http://media.wizards.com/2014/downloads/dnd/MM_IntellectDevourer.pdf Awww... they're tiny! So cute. For some reason I had thought they were bigger. Anyway, now I have a contender for a replacement for the Cthulhu-Warlocks' familiar, at least.

    D&D 5E (2014) Barbarian 'Unarmored Defense'

Fighting naked is pretty much its own reward.

    D&D 5E (2014) Polar bear?

Go with the giant elk! Then you can chat with it in Giant Elk during those quiet moments. There's 73 words for 'grass' in Giant Elk.

    D&D 5E (2014) Lost wagon of Phandelver

Seems like a good goblin SOP would be to shoot the oxen first.

    One Thousand Pre-Generated Commoners

A few people here seemed to like my One Thousand Pre-Generated Characters, so I went off and created One Thousand Pre-Generated Commoners. The party might roll up in strange town and decide to go visit ye olde local tavern (shockingly enough, I know.) Wouldn't hurt to decide what the barkeep...

D&D 5E (2014) Forging Arcane Focus or Holy Symbol into a Weapon or Shield?

I'd let this slide. The cost I'd associate with it would be "Hey look, that dude loves That God I Don't Like so much he put her holy symbol on his shield! Get him!"

An idea to make the game feel lighter

I'll just scootch into this thread before it gets moved. For a more radical lightening, one might consider getting out of skill proficiency and skipping straight to ability proficiency. So, for example, ye olde barbarian is now proficient in Strength and Constitution. Just add the proficiency...

    D&D 5E (2014) Skill Monkey Builds

Hunh, look at that. Oh well; back to your bagpipe lessons, Gutboy.

D&D 5E (2014) AC and negative Dex modifier.

I think this sort of thing is a little bit less obvious than it could be due to the term "to hit", because the "to hit" roll is more than just making contact with the target with your weapon; it also includes the idea that you've hit the target well-enough to damage it. Some versions of this...

D&D 5E (2014) Does anyone who got an mm at Gencon want to offer up spoilers to us?

I'm not sure if there's any way to answer this without typing up the power, but I'll ask anyway: What does the shrieker's shriek actually do? If it's just sort of a handwaved "yeah monsters might show up in they're hanging around nearby" then that's fine.

    D&D 5E (2014) Non-traditional PC archeypes. What's yours?

Tourist. Everyone loves a tourist! I'm pretty sure that's how that song goes. Cheers, Roger

    D&D 5E (2014) MM Excerpt: Bone Devil

I'm glad these sorts of monsters got their old names back. That said, I can live with them not being "TYPE XXXIV" if I have to.

With the tarrasque also being a titan, I find myself speculating that it's the ugly offspring of some god. Who might have some strong feelings around the mortals who just killed it.

And they can cast prestidigitation as a legendary action, which makes them about the scariest birthday clown possible. I'm not sure what sort of chump lich isn't hiding its phylactery in a secret chest, though.

It's a modron... made of meat. A meat-ball, if you will.

D&D 5E (2014) How would you make a character who uses a shield like Captain America?

Improvised thrown weapon: damage 1d4 bludgeoning, thrown (range 20/60). I think that looks about right. Cheers, Roger
