Would you give XP for this?

He did say it was a house rule :D IceBear

Knowledge skills -- what do they reveal?

All I do is adjust the DC of learning the information appropriately. Let's say someone has Knowledge (History) and another person has Knowledge (Local History). The DC to learn something that happened in the past in the local area might be 25 for the first person and 15 for the second. IceBear

    Shhh! No verbal spells aloud.

Ok, so instead of my researched invisibilty spell, he has a 5th level spell that lets him cast a fireball without verbal components and requires a 500XP ruby? I just propsed the invisibility, because I would think the wizard would have planned would to be to go on the defensive when silenced...

    Shhh! No verbal spells aloud.

Sorry, I know that he doesn't have the Silent feat. I was saying what if he had RESEARCHED a spell that didn't need a verbal component (maybe it has an expensive material component instead). For example, a 4th level spell that's basically the same as the 2nd level invisibility spell but has no...

    Shhh! No verbal spells aloud.

Couldn't he have researched some custom spells (even if it's just one's from the PHB at higher levels - you know, a 3rd level spell that's basically magic missle without Verbel components) that don't need Verbal components? You'd have to leave them in his spellbook, however, if the players...

    Point Buy Rules

Thanks Kreynolds. I knew how it worked, just didn't know the cost of the points :) Thanks again. IceBear

    AoO with Spell-like abilities

The PHB implies that you would threaten the area around you with a touch spell, and delivering a touch spell itself does *not* provoke an AoO. IceBear

    Point Buy Rules

Ok, I don't have my DMG handy and I need to send someone an email with how a 28-point buy works (I have normally had everyone roll their stats before) and I'm unsure how it works. Could someone post a synopsis of the rules? IceBear

    Touch attacks with Sneak damage?

Agreed, and that's why I dislike it. IceBear

    Touch attacks with Sneak damage?

Yes it is (and I dislike that too). It specifically states in Tome and Blood that the sneak attack damage would, in this case, be cold damage and thus be doubled. IceBear

    Touch attacks with Sneak damage?

Well, there you have it. Seems to go against my sense of common sense :D but that's the offical ruling. I will, probably be houseruling this to the way I think it should work, but at least we know what the offical answer is. This answer implies that the 1d3 ray of frost, is - before it even...

    Touch attacks with Sneak damage?

No, but it's the same principle I believe (I'm mainly tending this way because of the unbalance making sneak attack taking the energy form of the spell leads to). The ray of frost does 1d3 points of cold damage. It does the sneak attack damage because it got the person in a vulnerable spot...

    Touch attacks with Sneak damage?

Hmmmm - I don't remember off the top of my head but I believe that's right. If the base attack didn't penetrate to cause damage, then there is no sneak attack damage. If you stab something with damage resistence in the kidney, but it doesn't penetrate the skin to reach the kidney then there's...

    Polymorph clarifications?

I'm with hong, but by the book you only get natural abilities. Besides movement types and natural armor, there AREN'T any abilities listed in the MM that isn't EX, SU, or SP. Thus, no rake, constrict, etc. Me, I think it's reasonable that if you can turn into a bird and fly then you could...

    Expertise/Full Defense

Yeah, what Spikey said. Total defense can be used by anyone when they want to improve their AC. If you want to use expertise (which is, I guess, the core rules method of actively parrying) you need to spend a feat - not something that would be attractive to everyone. IceBear

    Expertise/Full Defense

But the FAQ (for what it's worth) has specifically clarified that it's not meant to stack. It must be an attack or a full attack action, not a misc action. IceBear
  19. IceBear

    Expertise/Full Defense

I suspect that's because it's harder to get high AC through other means (don't know for sure as it's been awhile since I read the book). I know that few people would have magical armor, for instance. IceBear
