    D&D 3.x v4: Challenge Ratings pdf (3.5 compatible)

Yeah, I thought that a 72 total, not a 63 was the standard too. I disagree. A difference between 16 and 24 is a 4 point penalty for a disintegrate spell. Do I think higher intelligences make better mages? Of course it does. The same goes for fighters and Str, etc. etc. Ability scores play a big...

Why wouldn't you always cast on the defensive?

I would be the first DM to be cautious of arcane spellcaster exploits, but I think that casting on the defensive, as it stands, is totally legitimate. After having read the posts in this thread, the point is: We're talking about a FREE attack here, people. If these guys are SO concerned about...

    Crappy Undead Fort saves

It's like making Achilles and then giving him an Achilles' Heel. I for one wouldn't want a lot of those vulnerabilities when something like a Disintegrate will easily have me even at high, high levels. I would like to add that every suggestion for tackling undead on RPG forums comes with a...

    PRC Burnout (poll)

Not without? :D Yeah. Even my dislike for PrCs wouldn't make me conclude that ONE is definitely enough. Sometimes ZERO is enough and sometimes TWO or THREE are enough. ciaran

    Crappy Undead Fort saves

Anyone use any House Rules related to this? Do you let them use a Wis bonus or something similar? Curious as to your thoughts... I don't like the idea of my Death Knight getting powdered after a crappy save. Yeah, yeah, I know I can buy him items, but I was wondering if anyone else had some...

Has anyone ever played "themself" in a game of any sort?

I wouldn't play "me" in a game simply because I wouldn't mind losing now and then. Always winning is so boring! ciaran

    PRC Burnout (poll)

I have to agree. The unbalanced feats cause more damage because it's hard to see them as such when you're looking at them. An unbalanced PrC is hard to miss. Good thing that I dislike PrCs. I wouldn't allow them either, except for rare, rare, rare, rare, rare situations. ciaran

    Multiplicity of Knowledge skills

I have a "freeze" on all knowledge and craft skills. For knowledges I use: Arcanum, Construction, Enterprise (trade laws, practices, etc), Governance (social laws, ruling, kings, dynasties, etc), Military, Nature, Necrology, Planar, and Religion. In addition I have skills called Abstraction...

    D&D 3.x Class and cross-class skills in 3.5e

The only three that I've found offensive so far are: * Not that the Sorceror has virtually no Knowledge skills, he doesn't have much of anything else either. Diplomacy, Intimidate, yeah. * Fighter: Rope Use and a couple of other combat-oriented skills. He doesn't have them * Paladin: Has...

[nostalgia] Looking back at the stupid crap we used to do

Two that I remember (that I probably should tell you about): * Doing a homebrew version of Dark Sun that was a complete ripoff of Dune * Trying to make conversions of Final Fantasy: Tactics character classes for my homebrew version of Dark Sun that was a complete ripoff of Dune. Needless to say...

Why wouldn't you always cast on the defensive?

So a guy with a readied action can still smack him if he backs away 5 feet and tries to cast? ciaran

    Your Exp with Psi-Chars

Lots of replies. Wow. Please post them. What does everyone think of these house rules based on your experience with psionics? * Get rid of multiple ability dependency and make psionic effectiveness depend on Int or Wis (probably Wis). * Make bonus PPs depend on Con. * Remove psi attacks and use...

    backwards conversion (psionics)

Well, to answer your question directly: make the powers scale, make the powers good, and make the powers fair. From 3e I've pulled into 2e: Microcosm, Genesis, Concussion, Time Regression, Thrall, Catapsi, Apopsi, Metafaculty. E-mail me if you'd like the conversions I've done. They will soon...

    backwards conversion (psionics)

Don't do it. Believe me, I've spent a bit of time on this to NO effect. 2e psionics is far gone, and IMHO it can't be revived. The massive number of problems I've encountered (and subsequently given up on): * Not scalable. The high level psionicist has more PSPs but he doesn't do any more damage...

Why wouldn't you always cast on the defensive?

Could someone explain to me why casting on the defensive is an option at all? Why wouldn't you do it all the time? And if you would (while threatened) then you always have a constant % chance of failure that sucks at lower levels but is inconsequential at high ones. Correct me if I'm wrong...
