    Improving a Dragon's DR

We do this as well, although we scale it from "x/Magic" for younger dragons, to "x/Bane" for older dragons, and "x/Bane and Epic" for CR 21+ dragons. In fact, bane weapons always bypass DR for the appropriate creature except in the case of Epic beings. It's worked like a charm for many years...

    High-Level Play

Not at all. It is merely one way to do it. The way used by (some) adventurers who have proven themselves to the masses through their deeds. A guy born as the crown prince does the same thing an entirely different way (and possibly the adventurer ways as well if he's also a PC).

Will Specialist Mages be listed as separate classes?

It might be neat if they divided the arcane/wizard spells into Simple, Complex, and Exotic spells, a la Monte Cook's Arcana Evolved. Standard wizards have access to all simple and complex spells, but not to exotic spells. Specialist wizards have access to all simple spells, plus complex and...

    Medium Armor: Why?

Just switch the maximum running speed limitation from heavy armour to medium, and the actual speed reduction to heavy armour only.

Has the Vancian Magic Thread Burned Down the Forest Yet? (My Bad, People)

I get that is how you feel. You want D&D to be a bit more (or a lot more) like GURPS or HERO (which shoot for totally generic everything, magic included). I, however, don't. The flavour of magic systems across sources varies greatly from my perspective. Is there really a middle ground, or just...

Has the Vancian Magic Thread Burned Down the Forest Yet? (My Bad, People)

No worries. Typos are a common mistakw. Reasonable. However is it a subjective statement rather than an objective truth. For example, you could substitute any other magic system for vancian in the above paragraph and it would remain equally reasonable (and subjective). So, it all comes back...

Has the Vancian Magic Thread Burned Down the Forest Yet? (My Bad, People)

Apologies. Edited it out of my previous post. No insult to your intelligence is intended. I am merely expressing frustration that you seem to be skimming my posts (because your responses occasionally seem to disregard certain things I said in them). Yes, and my answer regards the same thing...

Has the Vancian Magic Thread Burned Down the Forest Yet? (My Bad, People)

On the basis they they don't? ;) i.e. plan ahead for the day when choosing spells, and then having their use structured in a certain way (spell slots) throughout the day. It is a fun part of the game for some people. I never said they don't provide an interesting tactical decision. I said they...

Has the Vancian Magic Thread Burned Down the Forest Yet? (My Bad, People)

Because it is one of the many obstacles you'll need to overcome if you wish to affect change. Not the main thing, for sure, but part of it. Also, how is that different from your reasoning for change, which is basically saying "I don't like it!"? That's a great justification for your own very...

Has the Vancian Magic Thread Burned Down the Forest Yet? (My Bad, People)

Indeed. Vancian magic isn't attempting to emulate an organic flavour of magic so you won't get much traction saying it fails at that. Vancian attemts to emulate another flavour of magic. Why is one flavour better than the other? It's not, outside the realm of personal preference. All of those...

Has the Vancian Magic Thread Burned Down the Forest Yet? (My Bad, People)

Perhaps, but there were enough to take the OP by surprise ;) Spell points are not an artificially constructed game mechanic, I suppose? Nor the building blocks of an Ars Magica like system? Never said it wasn't. How is that even relevant? There is no disparagement of other magic systems...

Has the Vancian Magic Thread Burned Down the Forest Yet? (My Bad, People)

That's cool. It does for me (and many others, it would seem...) It feels like a pseudo-science, to me. ...or it facilitates the staging and timing of adventuring. For spell point systems, the party stops when the points are gone. For fatigue systems, the party stops when exhaustion sets...

Has the Vancian Magic Thread Burned Down the Forest Yet? (My Bad, People)

There is no double-standard here. The pro-vance crowd is not haranguing anybody (in this thread, anyway)... just defending a much loved game component that has come under attack. :erm:

Has the Vancian Magic Thread Burned Down the Forest Yet? (My Bad, People)

ProfessorCirno, in your previous response to my posts you seem to be trying to win an argument that Wizards are more powerful than Psions. I may be misinterpreting but if that is the case, then congratulations! Being the only contestant, you win! However that isn't the topic of the thread. I am...

Has the Vancian Magic Thread Burned Down the Forest Yet? (My Bad, People)

I've had only the opposite experience. Most newbies who join our groups wonder about the esoteric nature of it all, and want to find out more. Also, it is simple for them to learn but becomes more complex if they want it to (by going all the way to high levels with caster classes, which can...

Has the Vancian Magic Thread Burned Down the Forest Yet? (My Bad, People)

No, it's not. It does a good job of portraying the feel of a certain type of magic - the type that is relentlessly sought by power-hungry individuals who aren't born with magic and refuse to kowtow to others for it. Folks whose magic is not their own to be channelled and shaped on a whim, or...

    D&D 3.x D&D 3.5 ruleset, splitting Dexterity

Also totally different things... Constitution -> Health (general wellbeing) -> Stamina (resistance to fatigue, illness, hardship etc) Intelligence -> Learning (the act, process, or experience of gaining knowledge or skill.) -> Reason (to form conclusions, inferences, or judgements.) Wisdom...

    D&D 3.x D&D 3.5 ruleset, splitting Dexterity

Except... that's not all that the descriptions at the link say (the SRD). Here is what they actually say: Strength measures your character’s muscle and physical power. Constitution represents your character’s health and stamina. Intelligence determines how well your character learns and...
