One guess: The DM does think they are ready for the “main” part of the campaign yet. So they keep the trip going. A lack of preparation and confidence, sometimes combined with grand intent, explains a lot of DM issues I have encountered over the years.

Productive assets (especially IP) can generally survive bankruptcy. It’s the creditors that lose out. If debt was in fact transferred to an unviable company they could sue. But it could get messy.

This is about a sudden drop in sales, not long term trends. Speaking of which. Even a quick glance at Amazon shows sales rankings are down pretty much across the board, even with deep discounts . This consistent with a drop in demand. Which is what happens before a new edition comes out.

You could always break out the expert set. So instead of quickly dying in the Caves the PCs would quickly die on the way there.

Speaking of Minecraft it is all so self-referential now. It’s a variant on D&D, the variation being that it is like D&D, at least it’s like what D&D was.

Why is WotC doing this? If some people want to charge, and pay, for what others do for free, whatever. But WotC doesn’t have to promote it? Why promote it?
