D&D 5E (2024) 2025's Ancient Green Dragon Stat Block From The New Monster Manual

I like it, it cleanly presents the dragon and gives it some interesting options. But speaking of CR, what does it mean in a case like this? 4 characters of what level would find this challenge? I think they would be lower than 20.

    D&D 4E D&D 4E Post-Mortem

A CoC gm running 4e, maybe not a perfect match. But there were also core flaws with 4es math and assumptions that could make combat too grindy, and those of us that stuck with it had to find ways to deal. Out of combat, you also needed rituals, and to push for the same stuff that you would have...

    D&D 4E D&D 4E Post-Mortem

So Retreater, I have noticed a pattern with these threads, but speaking of patterns. You did manage to cover several of 4e’s greatest hits: (perceived) dependence on an online/computer character builder, too much focus on combat, highly tactical fast playing combat that was the system’s main...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Beyond Article on Crafting

This does various things I have had in past games in a straight forward way and can easily be elaborated on. I like it!

    D&D 5E (2024) Reworked…revised…redone….but

In terms of starting this fast growing thread, the motivation is not semantics or the “e” word. It’s that WotC is on the record that this is a lot of change. If we take them at their word, then it’s all kinds of different. And better, as there is very strong encouragement to switch to 2024. But...

“Dungeons and Dragons 6” is pretty good.

D&D General What do you prefer to give/get XP for?

I have had that same journey. In theory I would like to use XP for all sorts of things, but I know the hassle factor is to great in practice.

    D&D 5E (2024) Reworked…revised…redone….but

In this video: Jeremy Crawford goes out of his way to say how much has changed for the coming whatchamacallit. A lot of new! different! better! In fact he goes so far as to imply that there is as much change as there has ever been from one core to another. (Reworking I think is the exact...

    Dragon Reflections #77

There all in pdf…and this was early for PDF. I don’t remember if there was a search function, but it’s great resource in any case.

    Reinventing the Wheel

So these solutions…I regularly see threads here were one poster’s solution is definitely not another’s. I don’t really agree that RPGs have been “solved”. They have certainly been changed and varied, But almost always these variations create new issues which then require new solutions.

OSR What's the best introductory BX/OSR scenario for new players and DMs?

You can run both as is, or expand with DM effort (with ToEE perhaps requiring the most effort). As for Hommlet, it is meant as a longer term base—with that effort. And, the PCs should have some shock after there first foray to the moathouse, go back to town and start looking for help. Then it...

D&D 5E (2014) Quests from the Infinite Staircase: How Is It?

Lost Temple of Tharizdun was in the same mountains and had a linked map, with friendly gnomes who could host the party between the two adventures. I did run both, albeit in Transylvania (or technically the Carpathians).

D&D 5E (2014) Quests from the Infinite Staircase: How Is It?

Interesting. I guess the first level looked smaller, or with fewer rooms at least. Still have the big”outdoor” area.

D&D 5E (2014) Quests from the Infinite Staircase: How Is It?

The Barrier Peaks ship map looks like the same crashed ship, at least on a quick inspection of the images above. But apparently there were some changes?

OSR What's the best introductory BX/OSR scenario for new players and DMs?

I guess Village of Homlet and Lost City are not as new DM friendly, though they offer strong RP opportunities and, while potentially deadly, more of a learning curve for the PCs. New DMs, don’t be afraid…

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D species article

Also not my favorite. For the classes it’s something here, something there. Probably 10% annoyance at the most. This is more like 35 to 40 % annoyance. Though at least it’s not 100%

D&D 5E (2024) Players Handbook 2024 Art and Design video from WotC

I was very down on the 2024 aesthetic just before watching this….not anymore! Best of these videos yet.
