    Your TTRPG Design Principles?

Outside of specific system/mechanics stuff, here are some really, really important ones: Include a "Your First Session" chapter, split into sections for the players and the GM. Discuss the procedures of play. Include both player and GM principles and agendas so it's clear what "good play" in...

    E. Gary Gygax Sr. May Have Had Another, More Recent Will?

No doubt! Though I'll add that I think Discord is really capturing a lot more people, very steadily. As a Reddit mod, I'm seeing that to a noticeable degree, though I'm sure it's not the only reason.

D&D General Industry Veteran Jennell Jaquays Passes

RIP. Caverns of Thracia is still my favorite megadungeon by far. Here's hoping we're still getting a Goodman Games OAR release of it.

Kickstarter HEROIC The Role-Playing Game is Now on Backerkit - An Updated Take on FASERIP

It was announced months ago that the FASERIP retroclone remix Astonishing Super Heroes was not going to be receiving the planned second book, Spectacular Origins, but the future was not bleak! We can finally announce the official news explaining what's up! HEROIC The Role-Playing Game by Zenith...

Valiant Adventures Superhero TTRPG Coming From Green Ronin

Just guessing, but considering I never see it come up in the many discussions about superhero RPGs here and other fora, I can only imagine it didn't sell very well. My experience with it was that it was a decent read, but I never got it to the table to test it out. And the weird musical chairs...

WotC Updates D&D's AI Policy After YouTuber's False Accusations

Thirded, and I'll add that if an individual takes the actions to "stop feeding the algorithm," then the algorithm changes for that individual because it's meant to be highly customized. So even if you think, "I can't change the rest of the world," it's a fact that you can (admittedly somewhat...

Dungeon Delver's Guide In Polygon's Best TTRPG Books of 2023!

Does the dungeon building including tables for stocking the damage with monsters and traps, or is it more on the advice/theory/discussion side of things? I have some new, young players who may want to one day be GMs, and the one thing there's plenty of in the OSR space but not very much of in...

RPG Print News – Cubicle 7, Mongoose, Melsonian Arts Council, and More

Between this for OSR, and the Monstrous Menagerie and Flee Mortals for 5E, the bar for monster books is incredibly high now.

D&D General Dungeons of Drakkenheim & Lairs of Etharis: WotC Adds Third Party Products To D&D Beyond

Notably the language changes throughout the year: "Jan-Mar 2023: What to expect in 2023": "Jul-Sep 2023: Upcoming": "SRD" isn't mentioned in the beginning of the year, but it is a noticeable change in the most recent update. If I were a betting man, I'd put money on that not being a mistake.

D&D General Dungeons of Drakkenheim & Lairs of Etharis: WotC Adds Third Party Products To D&D Beyond

Thank you! It's even moved from "In Progress" to "Upcoming" which is...a thing, I guess! ;-)

D&D General Dungeons of Drakkenheim & Lairs of Etharis: WotC Adds Third Party Products To D&D Beyond

To clarify, you're saying Wizards of the Coasts have said unequivocally they are releasing prior editions into a CC? Could you point me to one of these timelines? I can't seem to find anything regarding an update to the initial statements I mentioned regarding past editions going into the...

D&D General Dungeons of Drakkenheim & Lairs of Etharis: WotC Adds Third Party Products To D&D Beyond

Did they promise that, or just mention they were looking into it and hopeful to do it? I don't have the quotes to back this up, but I thought it was a "likely" possibility for the previous SRDs to be released (3e/3.5e), but anything else (4e's GSL, everything prior to 3e) was just a "we'd love...

Free League announces The Electric State RPG based on the art of Simon Stålenhag

Is there any indication that Stålenhag's settings are all the same continuity, just different points, or is it more just that there are some similar themes at work?

There's A Diablo TTRPG (and boardgame) Coming!

Agreed. It dilutes what crowd funding is, turning it into a simple pre-order and marketing apparatus for companies that often already have those things, but see them as an "unnecessary expense," which probably leads to those teams getting laid off :-(

D&D General Luke Gygax Brings Back Gary Gygax's Castle Zagyg

Seconded. Expanding on those thoughts for those that aren't familiar with this book: The town is certainly serviceable, but very, very pedestrian. Gygax seemed to double down on his "Medieval simulationism" more and more by the time he came around to writing this stuff. And because the castle...

Planescape: Adventures in the Multiverse Review

Just my guess here: They did that with Waterdeep: Dragon Heist and got dragged for it because "you only use 1/4 of the baddies and main encounter lairs." Which was actually broadly untrue: you could -- maybe even should -- pepper in the other factions, just not as the main protagonists, but the...

I'm ready for a new Star Wars RPG

My limited experience with FFG Star Wars was that if you replace most/all rule-referencing with just using the rulebooks from one of the Starter Sets, then it plays much better. Only go to the bigger books for character-facing specific traits. But overall, I just didn't stick with the game past...
