    AD&D 2E 2e Reprints, anyone else notice?

I'm assuming that they're reprinting the later versions, because those are the ones that contain all the errata. Just like the 3.5 PHB.

D&D 5E (2014) The evolution of Charisma and Wisdom

Should have mentioned this the first time, but as a point of order: Both Comeliness *and* Perception were stats originally presented in Dragon Magazine during 1e. Comeliness made it all the way to Unearthed Arcana, but Perception never made it out of the pages of Dragon #133. So this is...

Making my own system; suggestions for spell effects?

I want to say that the old Enworld created alt-magic rules worked like this. I thing I own the PDF, but I'm blanking on the name....

D&D 5E (2014) The evolution of Charisma and Wisdom

In some of my homebrewed/houseruled games, I've changed the last two stats to Observation and Personality specifically to highlight this difference. In my opinion, we don't need stats for (a) how clever you are or (b) how attractive you are. Cleverness is largely a function of player ability and...

    D&D 5E (2014) New L&L for 22/1/13 D&D Next goals, part 3

There is no situation in which "boldly proclaiming" that X is not Y is not snobbish/obnoxious. Putting an "in my humble opinion" in front of it doesn't make it any better.

    D&D 5E (2014) New playtest packet available.

I liked the Barbarian well enough. Will be interested to see what variations we'll wind up with.

    Favorite custom gods

One of my old campaigns featured a single human god named Mithras. The elves in this campaign world spent much of their history as a slave race, leading one character to sing the song "I Hate Mithras" during one of our holiday themed sessions. A campaign I ran recently featured a Healer whose...

    Carrying capacity: The ruling currency?

I will say this: I think it's weird that D&D characters fight with their backpacks on. Soldiers in the military cover heavy packs all the time, but (correct me if I'm wrong!) they drop them when they enter a firefight. D&D characters should do that too.

WotC PDF??? So Morrus Tweeted this

I did vow never to buy a physical WotC rulebook again when they dropped PDF support, so I'm glad to see this restored before Next comes out. (I guess I cheated when I bought the 1e reprints, but that was for a good cause.)

    D&D 5E (2014) New L&L for 22/1/13 D&D Next goals, part 3

In my experience, 1e/2e style multi-classing was RIDICULOUSLY unbalanced. The Fighter/Magic-User/Thief could basically do everything the Fighter, Magic-User, and Thief could do, and do it almost exactly as well. (Maybe they were one level behind.) The seeming counter-balance was that only...

    D&D 5E (2014) DDN Concept Art

This suggests to me that you are unfamiliar with what bad kids cartoons look like. Am I missing something, or is everyone complaining that the nonhumans have nonhuman proportions?

Would you ever watch other people play RPGs, as entertainment?

See, and I take the opposite conclusion from the same experience: It can work, in isolated cases, with the current set-up. If it were souped up with (a) tight editing, (b) music, (c) on-screen graphics, (d) intercut player and DM interviews, etc. (Basically, all the things they do with...

D&D 5E (2014) No L&L till now, new playtest packet?

That's not an American holiday. It's Martin Luther King day.

    D&D 5E (2014) Cosmetic Changes You'd Like to See

I've never had a problem with this. In the one campaign I ran that used Dragonborn heavily, they were explicitly created by the Dragons to serve as intermediaries between dragons and men. (So it made perfect sense that they would share physical traits with humans.) This is only really an issue...

Would you ever watch other people play RPGs, as entertainment?

Obviously Wizards has already done this (to a limited extent) with the Acquisitions Incorporated games and a handful of other celebrity games. If I can synthesize what everyone else is saying: If it was done really well, it'd be good. If it stank, it would not be good. Clearly (1) entertaining...

Pathfinder 1E Challenge: Help me make a mountain climb interesting for my epic level players

"Climbing down a mountain" sounds pretty blah for an epic level campaign. I might arm waive it. (Particularly if the PCs just say "We use fly and then wait for a day. Repeat.") But if you really want to make it epic: a) Dragons b) Massive Earth Elementals (think The Hobbit) c) A passage through...

D&D 5E (2014) To all the Play-testers: Is it worth it?

It's a work in progress. Since they've been pretty upfront about introducing a mix of elements they like and don't like into the playtest documentation to gauge player response, I don't think it would be appropriate to make any judgements about the final product based on any individual iteration.

Armor Class vs. Damage Reduction - Your preference

Armor Class and the vague definition of Hit Points are my least favorite part of Dungeons & Dragons.

    D&D 5E (2014) Money in D&D Next?

Can anyone explain why this is desirable beyond the pure aesthetics? Is this a matter of historical authenticity? Trying to stave off inflation? Or is there a more subtle point I'm missing? (This is a serious question. I know some folks feel strongly about this, but I don't quite understand the...
