    D&D 5E (2014) Wandering Monsters 01/29/2014:Level Advancement...

It goes back at least as far as the 80s. The graphics for World of Warcraft were TERRIBLE in the 80s.

    D&D 5E (2014) Wandering Monsters 01/29/2014:Level Advancement...

At the moment, the first feat comes at 4th level. Although moving it to 3rd would make A TON of sense.

Any chart that says "you need this much XP to level up" is a baseline.

    D&D 5E (2014) Wandering Monsters 01/29/2014:Level Advancement...

None of the groups I play in or run use XP to level (and that has been the case for 99% of the games I've played in or run going back to the early 80s). Leveling has always been by milestone, whether in game (complete adventure) or out (X number of sessions played). That said, the XP totals for...

Do alignments improve the gaming experience?

Keeping in mind the obvious point that RPGs run perfectly well without an alignment mechanic, the obvious answer to your question is: Spells and effects can key off of alignment. (Whether's it's Detect Evil or a sword that can only be wielded by those of chaotic alignments, etc.)

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D Next Q&A: 01/24/2014

I understand where you're coming from but I don't find the idea of a cleric in search of a god or a warlock in search of a pact to be viable UNIVERSAL archetypes. As a one-off or an exception, I could see it, but I think it makes ZERO sense as a default.

D&D 5E (2014) Tyranny of Dragons is Coming! - the next storyline

It'll be interesting to see how they roll this out. I was saying on an earlier thread that Wizards might be best served with doing a self-contained mega-adventure in lieu of a traditional Red Box. I'd love to see a standalone "Tyranny of Dragons" boxed set available in the Walmart games aisle...

    D&D 5E (2014) Wandering "Monsters": Magic Items

Yeah, I went back and checked and realized I was thinking of the accompanying "Experimental Rules" for attunement, not attunement itself. I will also retract my comment that Wizards have spoken unfavorably of the rule until/unless I can find where I originally read that.

    D&D 5E (2014) Wandering "Monsters": Magic Items

This is not correct. There are named weapons and armors that exceed a +1 bonus in the current rules. Also, I believe that attuning items is presented as optional in the rules and early word from WotC was that it was unpopular and likely to be dropped.

    D&D 5E (2014) Wandering "Monsters": Magic Items

I couldn't quite wrap my head around "We are making no assumptions about how many magic items a party will have. And here are our assumptions about how many magic items a party will have." Does the math REALLY assume NO magic items? And if so, what does adding magic items do to the math?

D&D 5E (2014) What would success look like for Next?

I think the RPG guys are trying to use Hasbro's desire for B to bankroll A.

    Celebrity Impressions for NPCs

It's my contention that Connery has a pronounced lisp that folks don't pick up on because of his accent.

    Celebrity Impressions for NPCs

I had a villain in a DC Heroes game years ago that I used my Sean Connery voice for. Also, I feel obligated to reference THAT episode of Big Bang Theory.

D&D 5E (2014) Wandering Monsters 1/15/14: Reinventing the Great Wheel

My sense is that Wizards (and presumably their Hasbro overlords) want to use D&D Next to consolidate the brand around the Forgotten Realms, to create a platform for TV, films, more books and video games, etc. I am 100% okay with this, because it's smart business and I can happily ignore all of...

D&D 5E (2014) Labelling as much as possible "optional"

I believe that the three most commonly house ruled "official rules" from previous editions are: 1) encumbrance 2) experience points 3) alignments

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D Next Q&A: 01/10/2014

Yes. And I'm wager it will merit its own release, heavy with tactical-enabled spells and abilities.

D&D 5E (2014) Why I think we don't need rules for exploration, just tools.

The right way to handle Diplomacy: 1) role-play through just about every relevant social interaction 2) give advantage or disadvantage if the character does a particularly good or bad job relative to their Charisma score 3) roll and apply results judiciously Also, if somebody is really...

    D&D 5E (2014) What Would You Put In a 5E Red Box?

Oh, and another idea for folks to not like: The cover of the box shouldn't have fantasy art on it. It should have a picture of people (maybe a family or TV-ready teens?) sitting around playing the game.
