I voted 300$-500$, then checked again my Pathfinder subscriptions and realized it's in fact 300€-500€, which is a bit higher. With this, the odd 20€-30€ on miniatures (I have to thank WotC for downgrading the quality of their sculptures so much that I don't want their minis anymore, or it would...
Are there magic shops, really? That'd be the main point. Magic items are meant to be gained during adventures, not bought in a magic wal-mart. As for item creation, well, if a wizard has got the feat, spells, skills, materials and time, I'd say let them do as they wish.
In my campaigns, there...
If we take setting apart, I should say Fudge is my favorite one, because it's very easy for me to create statistics on the fly for almost anything with it.
If I use D&D3.x more is mostly because it has all the trappings of D&D fantasy already stated, and very little work is still more than no...
Forked from: The Changing Game
I know there must be something out there. My players just acquired a fortress in our PFRPG campaign, and I'd like to throw at them some cool stuff about managing it and its surrounding areas, as well as some mass combat goodness which might be on its way to...
Yes, in almost every fiction, there comes a moment where the hero "shakes off" his wounds and kicks ass. But...
a) Almost always, immediately after kicking ass, those wounds come up again.
b) The hero gets to do that 1-2 times per movie/novel/comic. Not 6-8 times per day. And it's almost always...
BECMI - Played 1st, DM'ed 2nd
AD&D2 - Played 20th (a one-shot), DM'ed 5th
D&D3.5 - Played 5th, DM'ed 8th
D&D4 - Played 1st, DM'ed 1st
Pathfinder - DM'ed 10th, not played yet.
Both 3.5 and Pathfinder were played/DM'ed from 1st level.
A good campaign world, IMO, must have the following:
* Mystery. I specifically want some things not to be discussed on the setting, so that players can have a sense of discovery when they find out about them during an adventure (Drow in Golarion are a good example of this).
* Plots and places...
Well, it doesn't matter what do they call them, but I hope they will change also the name of what until now were "Feats". Having two so different traits of a character being called the same way is confusing and easily avoidable.
Well, to be fair, most of the one-shots I played and ran back in the days weren't D&D, although I remember the odd Dungeon Magazine adventure, so it might very well be that they never existed :D
Thanks for the heads-up on RPGA and Pathfinder Society adventures. I'll have a look at them. My main...
For convenience, I recommend GameMastery Flip-Mats. When folded, the take up more or less the same space as a DM screen, so you can carry your whole game (flip-mat, DM screen, PC sheets and some module) in a simple folder.
I think one of the main reasons is the game focus' shift on combat as the main game event. A 3.x or 4e combat usually lasts about 30min-1hour, so there's no space for much else.
Also, I like longer games better, but that's no reason to ditch one-shots entirely. The fact that I like coffee...
It happened with 3.x, and it is happening again with 4e. As much as I like long term campaign play, I find it refreshing playing adventures which last just one session. Much of my high school time was spent (wasted?) playing many different rpgs, each one of them in the form of 3 or 4-hour...
In order to make characters with low skill bonuses feel useful, I've always let them use "aid another" as their action during skill challenges (well, during "complex skill checks", as it was/is in 3.x). That way they might not get a success, but they are nevertheless part of the solution instead...
I'm looking forward to the DDI virtual game table. If it works as it should, it'll be the ideal place for a quick pick-up game.
That said, it's difficult to find gamers because:
a) There are not so many of us. At least, not so many as there are willing to take part in other.. ahem... online...
Kill: no one. every D&D edition is awesome! ;)
Marry: 3.x/Pathfinder. She's the one who gets along best with my friends, and that's important when you're planning such a long-term relationship.
Nasty, sweaty, one-nighters with anyone that comes up in my way. I'm a gamenizer and just can't say...
I use to "semi-fudge" NPCs and monsters a lot. That's it, I figure out what the numbers should be on the fly and, if the critter survives for more than one session, I stat it up by the rules, but keeping the numbers I made out previously.
As a rule of thumb, the bonus "to something" of a...
