    Pathfinder 1E Paizo Annoucement!

I think you forgot the part where Paizo is making the pdf version of the Beta a free download. Yep, those moneygrabbers don't give printed copies for free, just the pdf! :D

    D&D 4E A player's perspective on 4e

My groups is also composed of late 20s, and we've played almost all versions (the 1974 rules escaped from our claws :D). Starting with BECM/RC to AD&D, then 3.0, then HackMaster/AD&D1 (you just have to ignore some wules to make HM equal AD&D1), then 3.5, and finally alterning 3.5 in our Friday...

Your choices are Kill, or ... Kill

Am I the only one who thinks that, being healing treated the way it is in 4E, the concept of "subdual" or "non-lethal" damage would be pointless? Ir you can heal almost fully between encounters via healing surges, separating damage that wears off after an enconter from another damage that would...

Trimming the Fat: Three Ability Scores

If it's true, the "select your Defense ability" substracts from the game, at least to me. It invalidates some fantasy archetypes that I like to be reflected from time to time in my games: - Old, weakling scholar. - Charismatic but gullible fella. - Not-so-strong, although my-Gawd-he's-resilient...

    Meditations on BECMI/Classic

BECMI and 3.X are two very different birds. I'd say they're almost opposites. While BECMI is all about a focused dungeon crawling, with clear, explicit roles and a "wing it" spirit for everything else, 3.X is much more systematic, with a simulationist approach (I don't want to start discussing...

    Tactical Boardgame?

So, by that definition... Are you saying Settlers of Catan is not a boardgame? :P

Request for Dedication to Gary Gygax

I don't know if I'm being rude here (I hope not), but it'd be even better if the Dedication went to Tom Moldvay as well... My condolences. Today, everyone of us have lost a very dear friend.

Warlock's Curse, Fey Pact and a Bag o'Rats...

That worm is my prisoner. I plan to take it to my secret lair and tell it about my global domination plans before I kill it.

Warlock's Curse, Fey Pact and a Bag o'Rats...

So we could say Drow aren't goint to make it to the final cut of the MM, because they are now lacking any distinct niche...

Warlock's Curse, Fey Pact and a Bag o'Rats...

Then why is it a teleport and not a shift? Another use of the Bag o' Rats is with 4E's Cleave against opponentes with high AC. Can't you hit the BBEG? No problem. Start squashing rats and let him die because of the splashing rat blood.

Warlock's Curse, Fey Pact and a Bag o'Rats...

You kidnap those poor little creatures, stuck them in a bag, kill them... And they're not your enemies? :D

Camping: It does a body good!

I'm not :P Level + Con modifier (min 1hp/day) is the way to go for me. Con modifier takes into account the "life juice" part of hps, and level the "roll with the punch".

    Warlock's Curse / Hunter's Quarry

Nope; it's more like saying that playing a fighter makes you: a) use a shield and b) do it in a predetermined way.

    My take.

Refilled as in "push reset button"? No. Fallen combatants attended by evil clerics, traps set to welcome the not-so-unexpected-now intruders? Most probably. Dungeon inhabitants retaliating by attacking and setting on fire the nearest town, so as the PCs know that all those innocent men, women...

    My take.

I've always thought the "stay in bed until fully healed, no matter how much time it takes" and the dreaded "15-minutes workday" are not rules problems, but adventure designing problems. If your concept of "adventure" is "a dungeon with completely isolated rooms where everybody just stands...

    D&D 4E 5th edition - 2015? Or is 4ed the last?

I'd say 5th Ed will hit the shelves in 2014. 40th anniversary just calls for that.

    How do you do NPCs?

It all depends on the pace and focus of the scene (please forgive me for using WoDisms :P). If I want to move things on, I speak on third person as in "the king's counselor discusses with you about your reward and any advance payment; roll Diplomacy". If I think it's an encounter I'd like to...

BECMI vs Rules Cyclopedia vs Castles & Crusades

Thanks a lot for your answers. I think I'll check out Labyrinth Lord and Castles & Crusades, and see which one has the right balance between simplicity and flashy stuff :) I don't plan for anybody on that group to read through any rulebooks, mostly because they're mainly non-English readers (as...

BECMI vs Rules Cyclopedia vs Castles & Crusades

I'm planning to introcuce some non-rolepaying friends to D&D, and what better than going back to the basics? ;) I have the Rules Cyclopedia, and I'm wondering what are the differences between this and the 5-part set. Is it worth it to buy e-versions (I supposse they exist) of them or do I have...
