D&D 4E Is my friend's unwillingness to try 4e irrational?

I wouldn't say the Spanish translation of 3.5 sucks. I find most of the feat names et al quite evocative, but there's a long tradition of saying that Spanish translations suck. Forgotten Realms' translations do suck, however :P

D&D 4E Is my friend's unwillingness to try 4e irrational?

You say: "staying in 3.5 is not an option". Bob says: "changing to 4.0 is not an option". Just play any other game: True20, Conan, HackMaster, C&C, Runequest, HARP, Earthdawn, Exalted... ;)

    D&D 4E Non-Euclidean Geometry in 4E?

The Fireball to Firecube issue bothers me, too. Fortunately, if there's anything simple to houserule, it's the "1,2,1,2" thing (although we've always done it diagonal = 1,5). so, I feel safe in my grognardy spot :)

    D&D 3.x I love 3E. I love 4E. I'm mad!

That's why I hope they become two very different systems. For what I've read, I think I'll stick to 3.5 for my Greyhawk games, and maybe I'll use 4E for a Scarred Lands campaign. The setting seems perfect for a "points-of-light" fluff and for some of the (little) crunch I've read.

D&D 4E Interesting Article on OGL and 4E

And, finally, we can see a meaning in having feats and powers named "Golden Wyvern Adept" and stuff like that. It's hard to defend a "Nature" skill as PI/Copyright, but if the trait's name is something not naturally attached to its function, it becomes much easier.

D&D 4E Death and Dying in 4E: Propose Your Own Homebrewed Rule!

My own take on dying characters: When you hit -1 hp, you're dying. When you hit -10 hp, you're dead. No more d100 rolls. Instead, each round you lose 1d3-1 hp. If you roll a '0' three times (consecutive or not), you are stable.

    History repeats itself

Sorry, my mom raised me to be polite and try to respect other people's feelings, not to say "you are just a crybaby" whenever anything I do or say offends someone. You're playing a different D&D than me, I'm afraid. Because those are always thought as real options at my table, and it's full of...

    History repeats itself

Many people here has already said they found it insulting. I'm not getting insulted by it, but previous editions of D&D are. And if it's insulting for a fair amount of people, it *is* insulting. Because God Forbade fighters to use different weapons, flanking, aid another, disarm, trip, grapple...

So where are the classic adventures?

If I wanted old classics, I'd play HackMaster. (Heck, I *play* HackMaster *because* I want old classics :D ). What I'm expecting is Keep on the Shadowfell et al to be new classics ;)

    History repeats itself

I'd prefer if they focused on what's unique, rather than on what's different. And when they try to sell me on a 3.X "flaw" which I happen to see as a merit (monster treatment, characters running out of resources, some classes or races mere existence), well, they drive me a little further from...

    History repeats itself

I used the verb "mock" consciounsly. It's quite different to saying "We're trying to fix the grapple rules" than filming the "-I grapple. -Oh, why did you have to do that?" sketch. They didn't "merely" say it. They mocked at it and hyperbolized it (is that even a word? :P) to the point of...

    History repeats itself

"They constantly coint out how much all prior D&D sucks" and "They constantly say 'all prior D&D sucks'" are very different statements. I get that and English isn't even my mother language, so I suppose it'd be easier to you. If you want evidence of WotC marketing based on pointing out prior...

Of gishes and arcane defencers and whatnot: Is 4th ed. language for everyone?

The first time in my life I heard (read) the word "gish" was on a David Noonan's blog post. Then I searched on Wikipedia and found out it was some kind of war god of the Kafir (and also Scottish slang for "semen" :P). I don't mind if someone creates a new word and it spreads itself to become...

What's the big deal about gnomes not being in the PHB? **Edited for adversarial tone*

I like the concepts of both the tinker/illusionist gnome and the earth gnome. And, if Elves are now Elves (for the "forest folk with bows") and Eladrin (for the "magical high society"), i don't see any reason why gnomes shouldn't get this same treatment, apart from the "elf guys/chicks are hawt"...

What Are You Going To Do With the Money You're Not Spending on New WotC 3.X products?

I think I'm mainly burning it on miniatures and gaming tiles. The best thing is I don't have to hope they're compatible with the new edition :D

    PoL & population density

I think population will be pretty sparse; most towns will have around 100 people, maybe one or two big cities (capitals et al) with over 2.000. At least, this is how I picture a PoL setting; no City of Greyhawk, no Ankh-Morpokh. Besides, if we listen to the fluff, almost every race had once a...

What are you going to do with all your 3.x stuff?

In fact, I'm hoping WotC keeps its word and 4E is, in fact, a very different game from 3.xE. That way, I'll have a different ruleset for each flavor I'd like to see in my campaigns: 3.x for old-school dungeon crawling and heroic fantasy; 4E for Slayers-style fun combat with a lot of flashy...
