Pathfinder 1E Interview with PATHFINDER lead designer Jason Bulmahn

Yeah, my edition is definitely better than yours. Just tell me what's your edition so I can choose mine and be able to disagree with you ;)

Pathfinder 1E Interview with PATHFINDER lead designer Jason Bulmahn

No, no, it's been stated. If a game has rules about stairs, it's a bad game. Let's be serious; have you ever encountered a stair (regular or dire) in a game? They're just an urban legend, as the head of Vecna or women.

Pathfinder 1E Interview with PATHFINDER lead designer Jason Bulmahn

Another proof that 3.5 is inherently flawed.

Are OGL publishers still 3pps? (a forked thread)

Right now, the only WotC 3.x books I own are Oriental Adventures, Eberron Campaign Setting and Expedition to Castle Ravenloft. On the other hand, I have every Pathfinder book that has been published. Who's the "3rd Party Publisher"? ;)

Summer Gaming Report: What Are You Playing?

I'll try to go on with my (mostly) weekly Pathfinder campaign. Also, I'd like to run some one-shots for other games like Shadorwun, Mutants & Masterminds, Paranoia or Call of Cthulhu. I wished I would actually play, but that would really be going too far :P

Dangerous Delves Preview 6: Goblins, Golem, Troll and Vecna!

Well, at least this one's better than Demonweb. Here I can keep the Cyclops, the Aboleth and the Beholder. Three more than what I liked from the former.

    Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder is done!

Did you just read? In WotC they want to put Erik Mona to sleep! :D

New player asking for some advice/help, please. 3e vs 4e. Which one is for me?

It could be that I actually enjoyed that part about being confused and not really knowing very well what it was all about. We started with RuneQuest (3rd edition, I think - the Avalon Hill one) and yes, we mad mistakes, but that were part of the fun. Discovering by ourselves how was it done. I...

New player asking for some advice/help, please. 3e vs 4e. Which one is for me?

I find it odd when people who've been playing for years tell someone "if you are new to the game, you should start using X", where X is a game different to the one they started with. It's like saying "I don't think you're smart enough to enjoy the old games". That said, I am with the posters...

Forked Thread: Miniatures - planning encounters

I own over 1.000$ worth of DDM minis, so I usually don't have problems finding a miniature which is similar to what I'm trying to depict (maybe a wolf instead of a hyena, or a bat instead of a stirge, things like that). When I plan a campaign, however, I try to get the best miniatures I can...

Sometimes, a skeleton is not just a skeleton.

I wasn't aware they couldn't. Give any monsters the ability you want them to have. If you think it's significantly more powerful than the standard monster, raise its CR 1 or 2 points. All those mathy things are just guidelines. Behind the screen nobody willl know if you did your homework, made...

    Town battle maps?

I bought City of Peril for the maps alone and haven't regretted doing it yet. The town square and narrow streets maps are extremely useful and generic enough to fit almost everywhere; I end up using them in almost every session. The other two are less generic, but they're good use anyway...

    Initiative Tracker?

And exactly the same as using a combat pad. The only difference is that the combat pat is prettier ;)

    Initiative Tracker?

Another vote for Paizo's Combat Pad here. I bought it recently and used it both in my BECMI and my Pathfinder games, and it is really handy. I used to write it down on the battlemat or use index cards, but this method won me over :)

    Point Buy Systems

Point buy systems, IMO, work better when the players don't know the rules very well. No, really. When they tell you "I want to do X, how much does it cost?", instead of "Hey, I got X ability, on page XX, taking up Y and Z disadvantages, on page XXX", things tend to go way smoother.

Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder RPG Core Book - Cover Posted

I also recall CoC 3rd Ed. cover as much better than 5th Ed. Is not that 5e is bad (when talking about CoC, you can't really say "this edition is better than that one"), but the 3rd edition cover had that "investigators + hidden horror + very probable horrible, sudden death" feeling which...

Were you RPGing before you even knew it?

Absolutely. In addition to "cops & robbers", "cowboys & indians" and other "pre-LARPing", we had tabletop HeroQuest/Zelda made-up games about Dragonball Z and WWF (it had an F back then) wrestlers :) And I'm making damn sure that my students have some other RP experiences, too ;)

Experts on other systems, why aren't they d&d?

To me, D&D is a roleplaying game about exploring dungeons and fighting dragons. If it has all those elements, I'll say "I'm playing Dungeons and Dragons". Then, there are trappings which can make a game "more D&D-like". The 6 attributes, d20 to attack, Vancian magic, classes, races, levels...

So which non- D&D based games have you played?

Played/DMed: - Aquelarre - Call of Cthulhu - Chill - Cyberpunk - Fanhunter - Fudge - Hidden Invasion - Kult - Middle Earth Roleplay - old World of Darkness - Paranoia - Pokethulhu - Risus - Rolemaster - RuneQuest - Shadowrun - Star Wars - Superhéroes, Inc. - Trail of Cthulhu - Warhammer Fantasy...

    D&D is a Horror Game

It is hardoded into the game. Monster's Hit Dice in previous editions, CR in 3.x and monster levels in 4e are meant to be used so that the PCs can success when fighting against them. CR is described as "average party level of this level can overcome this monster spending about 20% of their...
