Defenses and To Hits for Your Party ~ Averages

Um, no, they aren't different. They have the exact same cause, mathematically, because they use the same assumptions and the same system. They both stem from the exact same scaling issue. Hell, the only reason AC doesn't have the NAD problem is Masterwork armor's AC bonus (and even that needed...

Question about an elf ranger build

Rangers are almost pure damage. Warlocks have a fair amount of damage and controller-ish effects/riders/etc. Basically if you look at the monster definitions Warlocks are Lurkers, Rangers are Artillery or Skirmishers. The problem is a PC doesn't make a great Lurker.

Defenses and To Hits for Your Party ~ Averages

I'd hazard a guess I have more epic play experience then you do (by an order of magnitude), having played 21-30 on two Bards, a Druid, a Cleric, a Warden, a Wizard, a Fighter, a Paladin, an Invoker, a Ranger, a Rogue, and two Sorcerer's. It does break the intended math, no question about that...

Sleep is the most worthless spell

I dunno, "I cast my daily, we won" is pretty close to how it works out when I see intelligent players playing Wizards. Wizard dailies are terrifying.

Defenses and To Hits for Your Party ~ Averages

Fixed that for you. We really, really hate "FIFY" here. we consider it rude. Please don't do it. ~ Piratecat The math of the game is really straightforward, has nothing to do with CharOp. Monster Defenses increase by 1 per level. PC attacks increase by 1/2 level+Enhance. One of these scales...

He doesn't work for WotC anymore I don't believe, but he was on the original team that created and developed 4e. Not sure when he stopped working at WotC actually. Michael Donais is his full name, check the author(s) page on the original core books (and some others). He's on there.

But that wasn't the reason, and developers have stated it was a scaling fix. O.o Which is why they give out expertise free in their home games. His example was to demonstrate a "viable" class/race with a 16 in the main stat. Generally when you say something is "viable" it isn't also "one of...

Or it was a fix, like the developers stated. Either/or. It is obviously a fix if you look at the math, assuming level appropriate magic items and a constant boost to your primary stat and an ED that boosts your primary stat, PC attacks fell behind monster defenses by one point per tier. Since...

Sneak Attack--Help me stop my DM from banishing it!

8d10 brutal 2+1d6+15 = 78.5 average damage from the above scenario assuming you were optimizing for a level 1 nova and all five attacks hit. Max damage is 101 exactly, you could increase that to 117 max, but your average would be 70.5 (1d12s, but no brutal) . So a bit of an exaggeration, though...

Best Healing Cleric - soft Wisdom / Charisma Maxed

Defenses and To Hits for Your Party ~ Averages

Well, Expertise was supposed to be a math fix... some developers give it out in their home games (the DM reduces all monster defenses by 1 per tier, same difference). I don't know how that'd work out with the new essentials expertise feats though (which in some cases you'd want to take just for...

Artificer v Cleric for Healer ?

Artificers get 4 free rituals. Wizards get 3 at level 1, and then 2 every five levels up to 25 (total of 13). Compared to other leaders (who basically get a fixed one based on class and then can choose one) it is certainly better.
