D&D 5E (2014) Out of the Abyss: Underdark as Favored Terrain

I'd say you are being overly generous if you allowing the party to traverse spiderwebs without penalty. Favored terrain doesn't grant webwalk (party wide no less); similarly a mountainous ranger isn't granted a climb speed, nor a coastal ranger a swimspeed. It's one thing for knowledge of...

    D&D 5E (2014) Interpreting "normal maximum" for Ranger's Companions

The question asked wasn't "what is RAW?". It was "how do you play", with an implied "and why?".

    D&D 5E (2014) Interpreting "normal maximum" for Ranger's Companions

I max out the hit point dice. It's going to get outpaced by the 4xlevel eventually anyway (usually by level 5 or 6), and it makes it less likely I'll one shot it. Beastmaster already has enough quality of life issues. Of course, for "named" or elite npcs I tend to max out their hit point dice...

    D&D 5E (2014) Eliminating skill & feat taxes

Skills: Animal Handling - Remove it. Survival is enough. Maybe a bit of Nature for remembering how to deal with weird beasts No. Tracking, foraging, and not dying of exposure have nothing to do with controlling/training/domestication of an animal... every farmer is not a ranger and vice versa...

D&D 5E (2014) Refusing To Heal Party Members?

Couple of questions for the OP: Are you making any effort to tank? Are you just running around Hulk Smiting everything? You seem to be the only party member in heavy (and possibly even medium) armor. Did you ask the other players permission before playing a sentient #FailedStealthCheck? If...

    D&D 5E (2014) Warlording the fighter

The battlemaster fighter is indeed a "nod" to one of the 3 builds. What (some) people want is not an exact copy; it is merely more than a mere "nod" and for all three builds. They want this because they have existing characters and campaigns they want to port from 4e to 5e. They want this to be...

    D&D 5E (2014) Warlording the fighter

There are solid grounds to state the D&D team did worse than merely ignore demand for a 5e warlord. Mearls explicitly stated there would be 5e support for the 4e style warlord builds; then proceeded to backtrack over a period of months; before eventually refusing to comment further on the...

    D&D 5E (2014) Warlording the fighter

The Tactician fighting style, as listed, is overpowered; perhaps instead it could allow the warlord to grant advantage (or a bless style d4) to a single ally as a bonus action. The desperate charge feature seems grossly overpowered; instead of granting an attack action, limit it to a bonus...

D&D 5E (2014) Using Warlock Levels as Quest Rewards

Awesome quest reward! Shouldn't affect balance any more than a magic item; mechanically the boon is essentially a charge-based wand (1 charge).

    Path of the Ancestral Shaman

A nice start; the fluff is solid and I don't see anything obviously broken. A lot of focus on utility, which is fine as the base class has solid combat effectiveness. My only criticism is that Grandmother's and Uncles come in at the same level. Maybe some kind of summon similar to the spirit...

    Cleric Domain: Cold

Improved Distracting Cold seems overpowered; particularly so for a level 6 class feature. I would split up the AOE distraction and the attack debuff. Make the attack debuff a channel divinity option; I think it is fine as a limited resource, but not as a always on spam without a save.

D&D 5E (2014) Observations and opinions after 8 levels and a dragon fight

I took that number from the 3 quarters concealment baseline requirement to hide. 3/4 = 75% (concealed ) -> 25% (visible)

D&D 5E (2014) Observations and opinions after 8 levels and a dragon fight

You have pre-defined in your situation that the creature has not seen beyond the door; which would imply a ruling on the matter has already been made. As I stated I'm my previous post, my ruling would be made based on the underlying fluff of the creature’s blindsight and the physical...

D&D 5E (2014) Observations and opinions after 8 levels and a dragon fight

As soon the guard can "see" more than 25% of you, you are detected (under typical circumstances, and in your example). Edit: I can see where some might consider 25% as overly harsh (for losing stealth) and set the threshold at 50%.

D&D 5E (2014) Observations and opinions after 8 levels and a dragon fight

Spells need line of effect in addition to line of line of sight. It is possible to have one and not the other.

D&D 5E (2014) Observations and opinions after 8 levels and a dragon fight

There does not have to be such a relationship. Once you are at your destination either you in open view of the creature or you are not. Stealth allows you to avoid detection when you neither pass through, nor end in, open view.

D&D 5E (2014) Observations and opinions after 8 levels and a dragon fight

The short answer is yes (in the general); however I would make exceptions for certain common sense situations, relative to the nature (fluffwise) of the blindsight in question. When dealing with walls and doors I would take into consideration their thickness, solidity and any clear paths around...

D&D 5E (2014) Observations and opinions after 8 levels and a dragon fight

I would counter argue, that there is no relation between the manner of movement (stealth) and the destination (the open view of a creature).

D&D 5E (2014) Observations and opinions after 8 levels and a dragon fight

The rules of stealth clearly state that if you are not hidden, any creature that can see you is considered aware of you. It goes on to state the conditions necessary to hide. It further states that once hidden, if you move into open view; you cease to be hidden. It follows, quite directly, that...

D&D 5E (2014) Observations and opinions after 8 levels and a dragon fight

Blindsight ignores the concealment granted by the cover (granted in turn, by the rock).
