What CAN'T you do with 4e?

I'd see it as: there's a default woodsy flavor (similar to arugula, I suppose) to the ranger class, but that doesn't mean you can't build something similar another way. This is true in 3.5 as well — I had a rogue/ranger multiclass character I described as a "scout", and was a little surprised...

What CAN'T you do with 4e?

Okay, sure, if there was some joke, it went over my head. Sorry to give a serious answer.

What CAN'T you do with 4e?

I love this about d20 Modern. So much so that when that game came out I seriously considered backporting it back to a D&D setting.

What CAN'T you do with 4e?

Is there something I'm missing? Looks like Hit & Run works as an at-will for a regular spear, and you can throw javelins with Nimble Strike just fine. And probably Twin Strike too, although arguably you'd need either Quick Draw or a magic weapon. For first level encounter powers, choose Fox's...

What CAN'T you do with 4e?

For the first: "effective" or optimal? I'm pretty sure you can just hand a ranger a spear and some javelins, and there you go. Eladrin is nice for the feat. For the second: on your character sheet, write Bow-Wielding Fighter, and then use the ranger character class. Done! (Do you really need it...

Only three old Classes in PHB2?

I think it's likely barbarian to match the druid and the primal power source. I'll buy Shaman as another for the same reason. So, yeah, my theory is those will go in the Divine and Arcane Power books. But I freely admit I have no basis for this.

Only three old Classes in PHB2?

rampant speculation Barbarian, Druid, and Sorcerer, probably, yeah? The first two with the primal power source and sorcerer elemental. This suggests that PHB2 will concentrate on new power sources. There's three in the first PHB, so it's reasonable to guess there's three more. If those are...

    D&D 4E UPDATED 6/20/08! kiznit's 4e Fold-over Character Sheet w/ Cards

They are the shorthand which describes your character. It wouldn't be proper D&D to me without them right up there.

1/2 Orc - A new page for an old race

Wisdom isn't so exciting for a wizard that you really need a +2 to it. And as for clerics, why not? Perhaps something about their situtuation makes many half-orcs turn to the gods for help.

    Paladin and Lay on Hands.

Says target is "one creature", not "one other creature", so it seems like it, yeah.

    Feat design

Hmmm. You may be right overall, but this one seems like you may be making up your data to fit the desired curve.

    Nifft's Multi-Classing Revision

Well, how do you justify mathematically that it's the right price for a racial feat? This is where the "considering" comes in. If after a while the general consensus remains that the half-elf is the weakest race, giving it a little free boost seems perfectly good. Otherwise, the feat is...

    Nifft's Multi-Classing Revision

Hey, that was my idea. :) Although actually I'm considering making this not a bonus feat but just my half-elf house rule (instead of making the Con +2 movable.)

A class for multiclassers (The Dabbler)

Hmmm. So, with this plus the free multiclassing feats, that's eight trained skills to start. I'm not sure being an expert in all skills should come free with this class. How about far fewer skills — pick two, plus the two from the multiclassing feats — and then you get Jack of All Trades for...

    Fix for Orb

But sleeping people can make a perception check at -5 to see if they notice anything going on and awake. What's the perception DC for a battle ranging about you? 0? -20? :) So I see why they changed it, but I agree the extra wording seems necessary.

    Neat Little Gamist Rulesy Things

marks Just played our first session — the little kobold dungeon crawl from the DMG. We had four players — a ranger, a wizard, a paladin, and a fighter. The last battle was a little tough without a leader class, but I let them get a "free" daily rest before that since this was essentially a test...

    Nifft's Multi-Classing Revision

Yeah, that was the thing that jumped out at me right away too. Maybe choose one cantrip?

    Proposed Apprentice (Zero) Level

So, having DMed my first actual 4E session, I've got to say it really did feel like playing 4th or 5th level in 3E. Meanwhile, one of the players in our group notes that the epic tier powers seem very restricted and not near godlike at all. That's not necessarily a bad thing from my point of...

    D&D 4E UPDATED 6/20/08! kiznit's 4e Fold-over Character Sheet w/ Cards

I think the worst case currently is the human wizard, with four cantrips, three regular at-wills, and then a ranged and melee basic attack — 9 total. (Which may be replaced by magic missle, but maybe not.) The paladin is the next-worst, with two at-will class features, so with the...

    D&D 4E UPDATED 6/20/08! kiznit's 4e Fold-over Character Sheet w/ Cards

I think it's worth it: there's less to cram in on 4E sheets anyway (especially if one uses cards for powers — I'm interested to see how that works out in real play). I'm concerned, though, because the character in the current graphic appears to be in the process of donning latex gloves, and I'm...
