    new WotC pdfs copy/paste disabled

EDIT: Oh hey, they fixed it. Kudos. Now, if only the pricing issue were resolved.

I am a mean DM and I Love it! Bwahaha!

If the players already have been lead to assume that the standard resurrection ritual will be limited and are happy with that kind of game, I don't have any issue with this. And if it's limited to resurrection and won't limit other high level rituals and powers, even more so. It just raised...

    Bazaar of The Bizarre

Yeah, it seems reasonable, but it doesn't say so anywhere. I'd like to see it spelled out. The PH says "creatures that have natural weapons such as claw or bite attacks are proficient with those natural weapons" — does wearing this armor make you count as a creature that has natural weapons...

Plots that force them to make challenging moral decisions are one thing; secret house rules that do so are another.

    Discussing 4e Subsystems: Critical Hits

True with weapons. Less true with Polar Ray.

I am a mean DM and I Love it! Bwahaha!

So, you've changed the basic assumptions of the game in a way which may make it less fun without letting your players know. This seems fun for you, but will your players enjoy it?

    D&D 4E 4E character creation

Currently there's no animating dead at all in the game, so that's kinda a show-stopper. This is such a popular trope, though, that I bet there will be one eventually. In the meantime, wizard is probably a good choice, and you can work with your DM on making up a few animate-dead rituals...

What Are the 5 or 10 Best DM Resources ---USABLE REGARDLESS OF EDITION?

Particularly, a Roman Catholic version or other edition with the Books of Maccabees, Tobit, Bel and the Dragon, and so on. There's some great stuff with war elephants in Maccabees: Then Judas and his host drew near, and entered into battle, and there were slain of the king's army six hundred...

I'm sorry, your character idea is too awful.

How about "okay, but of course you'll need twice as much XP per level".

    Bazaar of The Bizarre

There's something I don't get with feral armor. Who has proficiency with claw attacks? Do you need to take that proficiency as a feat? Or does being proficient with hide armor somehow also grant the weapon proficiency? Both options seem silly.

    Whisper skill check

Yeah, this is my thought too. I'd take the "hearing a whisper" fixed DC as a guideline for a typical whispered conversation — obviously one can speak louder or softer at will. And I don't think it's worth a skill check to be able to choose this value exactly; just let the player do it.

    House Rule (Multi-Classing)

Be aware that swapping out at-wills is going to make a lot of people dip into barbarian.

And the MM clearly states that the entries there are primarily to help DMs create NPCs and may not be suitable for PCs.

    Columns You Want To See

Yes. The Ritually Speaking article was excellent, and I hope there's more of it. Honestly, I think I'd pay $5/month if all the magazine did was print a couple of dozen new rituals every time.

    Draconomicon Excerpt: Frostforged Wyrm

Yeah, that was my first reaction too. The first thing my players are going to do on hearing that description is think "cool, a weak spot" and try to devise a way to kill 'em.

    Ferocious Reaction and Action Points

Think of it the other way around: the normal (general) rules always apply, unless a specific situation has a special rule that says otherwise.

    Non-lethal damage

When this came up in my game, the players didn't like it because they were fighting foes that they wanted the possibility of being on good terms with after the initial, uh, misunderstanding that led to conflict. The complaint was "hey, this dumbed-down edition sucks because there's no way to...

    Downloading Painfully Slow?

I think there's a firefox plugin which lets you decide whether to save a pdf or show it in acrobat reader. I sidestep this problem by having evince (a pdf reader) installed but no browser plugin. I almost NEVER want to look at a PDF as if it were a web page. So, I never really thought about it...

Storybased Dungeon Exploration - No Map Required?

We basically do it that way. I often start drawing on the grid at points where there *might* be a tactical encounter or there might just be interesting terrain, both because it keeps things moving if a combat does happen, and so the players don't automatically equate the map coming out with an...

Initiate of the Faith and Divinity Feats

I'm with Zinovia — I give it in addition to turn undead. They're so situational and inherently limited (can only use one even if you have more than one) that it didn't seem worth it to remove turn undead. Particularly, some gods' channel divinity feats are worse than others, so I didn't want to...
