What Campaign World Are you Using?

Other I'm just about to start up a new campaign using Gaslight Press' Sun and Scale: The Gryphon's Legacy adventure. It contains just enough setting information to fire my imagination. It is quite bog-standard DnD but the premise of reclaiming lost parts of an old empire really compells me...

    Music to "role" by

Nah, I'll stick with electronic music. I already have 400+ CDs in that vein and my tiny brain is already filled with facts about it. Thanks for the clarifications on the music BTW. One more movie soundtrack that is fantastic: Batman, Mask of the Phantasm (the animated batman movie). Very...

    Music to "role" by

Get the Final Fantasy X soundtrack. It's really good (this from a gut who hates console RPGs but got hooked on the tunes while watching his wife play). I have gained a lot of respect for Nobuo Uematsu. He can make good music in many styles; quite an interesting collection of music. If you...

    [OT]Isaac Asimov Misnomer in LOCUS

Before this gets really far out of hand, could you please provide a direct link to Harlan's original post? Copying and pasting just doesn't do it for me and I can't seem to find it on his site. If this is an April fool's joke, it is in truly poor taste. If this is serious Ellison himself...

Sun and Scale - The Gryphon's Legacy. Micro review and questions.

In case you don't already know, your review is linked from Gaslight press' Sun and Scale page, so it didn't slip quite so far into obscurity as you'd think. :) Good review BTW. However, I'll dispute the well organized comment. IMHO, there seem to be an inordinate amount of "notes/special...

Sun and Scale - The Gryphon's Legacy. Micro review and questions.

This module reads really well, even if it is a bit disorganized. It's filled with a decent plot, well thought out encounters, and plenty of future adventure hooks. The layout is clean and easily readable with lots and lots of informative text and the few illustrations are well done (the cover...

Problems with Sunless Citadel (Possible spoilers)

The amount of repetition and dead space is a serious problem. To much: "you enter a small, square, empty room" garbage. (Note to adventure writers: ask yourself, "if it's empty and serves no purpose, why is it in the adventure?" Use the saved space for meaningful information). Keep the...

What is the attraction of Dragonlance?

For me it's the world building. The epic sense of history. Thousands upon thousands of years of it. It has substance and weight. Maybe not to the extent of Middle Earth (what does?), but far more than pretty much any other standard FRPG setting, especially ones designed for use with DnD...

What do you want to see in D20 Dragonlance?

Rules, mages, races, I don't care... just place the included setting's timeline firmly in the War of the Lance and the Twins series. Release books for the other ages, but make the core true to the roots of the series and I'll buy a copy for everyone I game with.

OT: Blade II - Spoiler - Opinions?

Voidsinger: DUH! But that's not the point. It could've been seriously shortened, with the chick vampire reporting back to Blade and the gang the about results. Actually going in and showing didn't serve a point except to provide more eye candy. In short, it seemed completely contrived to me...

OT: Blade II - Spoiler - Opinions?

Wow Karin's Dad. That's very impressive. You summed up my thoughts about the movie almost exactly. Get out of my head! I'd just like to add: For those who were fans of the first movie, this movie removes all of it's fun and replaces it with a healthy dose of shock. Plain and simple, the...

    RPG books in ordinary bookstores?

Chapters has been selling bits and pieces of RPG material for some time. I bought a softcover 1st edition EarthDawn at one about 2 years ago. They currently carry a decent range of WoTC produced d20 stuff, from 3e to Star Wars to WoT. I have no idea if it sells well though.

The quest for a "Good read"!

Thanks for the quick responses. Colonel : I'll deffinately try to remember Paul Kidd when I'm looking at the game fiction section. My problem is that I glance over it, feel dirty for even looking at it, and go back to the general fantasy/sci-fi section. :) Claude : Have read everything you...

The quest for a "Good read"!

I know, I know, the call for good reading material goes out quite often on this and other similar boards. But please bear with me. Here are the conditions: - Heroic Swords and Sorcery adventure fiction. No namby pamby political/intrigue/"inner journey" type of stuff. Sure, it can contain...

Seriously, what's so great about a class-less system?

Uh... has anyone else on this thread read kenjib's fantastic post? Not to steal his thunder or anything, but I've been crying for the exact same thing since 3e was released and I've said it many times on the old version of these boards. In fact, I feel that they made a huge mistake by...

d20 Modern = GURPS but better?

If d20 modern does away with the class/level system and moves to a pure skills/feats(/specials) system, I'll seriously consider it. Otherwise I have HERO 5th or GURPS which fit my concepts of "modern" gaming a lot better (for the same reasons as Cyragnome).

    Cheap Shot at D&D Players

Just for reference, it appears that the reporter was simply paraphrasing from the toy's description. To learn more about "Speedfry" and his mullet-head buddies, head over to: http://www.mulletheadtoys.com/ (BTW: "Speedfry" is not the doll pictured in the article.) (BTW2: While you're there...
