    D&D 5E (2014) Protecting Spellbooks

You've just traded one problem for another. Now the wizard has to worry about someone stealing the focus and holding it for ransom.

D&D 5E (2014) Is the Tarrasque tough enough?

I completely disagree. Ten minutes is more than enough time for the Tarrasque to flatten a village, or possibly even a small town. Maybe not every single building in the outlying areas, but certainly every public structure of consequence in the village proper, along with most of the homes.

D&D 5E (2014) How do you feel about the Forgotten Realms?

I voted "like." I love it as a setting for novels, but I'm neutral about playing in the setting. I don't like DMing in the setting because there's too much homework involved.

D&D 5E (2014) [Rules Question] Opportunity Attacks and Total Cover

I'm curious why you think that. Pretend you are fighting a human wizard, and that wizard has conjured a magical force field that he can move through freely, but you cannot. He has placed that force field so that it completely encases a 5-foot cube adjacent to you. (We'll say it's a short...

    D&D 5E (2014) Disengage Clarification

The mount didn't provoke an opportunity attack. It Disengaged. If the mount had provoked, the rider could be attacked, but it didn't. And the rider didn't provoke because of the reason I mentioned earlier.

D&D 5E (2014) [Rules Question] Opportunity Attacks and Total Cover

Well, xorn are size Medium, and Grapple is a marvelous, oft-overlooked tool in every combatant's toolkit.

D&D 5E (2014) [Rules Question] Opportunity Attacks and Total Cover

B never left A's reach; he moved behind cover. Those are completely different, unrelated game concepts. So no, no opportunity attack.

    D&D 5E (2014) Disengage Clarification

From the "Opportunity Attacks" section of the Combat chapter:"You also don't provoke an opportunity attack ... when someone or something moves you without using your movement, action, or reaction." When a mount moves you away from an enemy, it uses its own movement (and no action), not yours...

    D&D 5E (2014) Mitigating Critical Hit Devastation

One way to mitigate crits without bending the rules even a little bit is to have the fight occur in a situation where the baddies have disadvantage to their attacks, such as drow or goblins fighting in daylight. You can also use waves of enemies, or stupid enemies, and maybe give players ample...

D&D 5E (2014) [Rules Question] Opportunity Attacks and Total Cover

I would absolutely not grant an opportunity attack. An important part of the xorn's power is the ability to maneuver unimpeded. It's what makes the monster a threat. Otherwise you're just fighting an ogre who sometimes rolls around in the dirt. (OK, so they all do that all the time, but you...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5' Step and AoO

I always felt like the 5' step made it too hard to threaten ranged attackers. Nowadays, when a melee combatant manages to close with you, you actually have to consider how you're going to deal with that rather than just automatically taking the good old risk-free 5' step. Shocking grasp is...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5' Step and AoO

People really need to stop using ogres for this example. An ogre's attacks have a reach of 5', not 10'. Try a giant or something.

D&D 5E (2014) What are your world Races?

A better way to approach this is to find out what the players want to play and adapt your world accordingly before the campaign even begins. Homebrew D&D is a lot more fun if the DM and players collaborate and compromise to build the setting together, rather than having a totalitarian DM who...

D&D 5E (2014) It's October 1. Do you known where your spell cards are?

Not to mention, either WotC didn't bother doing its own approval pass, or they did one and missed these outrageous errors. I'm very happy with the WotC-created materials, but their track record for outsourced materials is 1-for-3 in my opinion. Both this and HotDQ are stinkers that no one...

D&D 5E (2014) Which options for an EK bladesinger?

Nope, you can take any 1st-level wizard spell you want with the Magic Initiate feat, and that's what DEFCON was having trouble deciding in the post I quoted. In fact, considering what you've just pointed out, Tasha's hideous laughter is an even better choice because it will be much harder to...

D&D 5E (2014) Which options for an EK bladesinger?

Tasha's hideous laughter. It's flavorful, it's useful in a variety of situations, and it doesn't scale up. And it's OK that you only get it once per day because if you used it all the time, you'd start feeling a bit like a one-trick pony.

D&D 5E (2014) Which options for an EK bladesinger?

Fluffwise, I think you made the right choice in going EK. The other classes you mentioned might come close-ish, but EK seems like it was intended to cover that Bladesinger niche. It just captures the flavor so well! It's tempting to go with mage armor, but I feel like that's taking the fluff...

D&D 5E (2014) Video of guys in plate mail as reference for you!

You don't need special training beyond proficiency -- anyone can cast already spells in any armor they are proficient with. Just sayin'.

    D&D 5E (2014) Request for Venger - 5e style

The complete D&D animated series is still available on DVD -- all 27 episodes! If you were a fan of the show, I do recommend it. It's a little cheesy at times, but oh man, the fond memories! I don't know if they are still packaging it with the booklet, but mine has stats on all the main...

D&D 5E (2014) Let's break the Ring of Spell Storing

It's not spelled out, but the style of the 5e rules is more about common sense than punctilious, exhaustive coverage of every possible contingency. In this case, we have to assume that the intent of the caster determines whether a spell goes into the ring; otherwise, the wizard wearing the ring...
