D&D General Drow & Orcs Removed from the Monster Manual

No humans, dwarves, goliaths, gnomes or halflings in the 2014 MM. Was it a problem then? Why it a problem now?

D&D General Drow & Orcs Removed from the Monster Manual

So we should have kept strength caps on women, but just as a sidebar? What about race as class, but just as a sidebar? We should keep blatently overpowered 3.5 subclasses, just as a sidebar? There are several problems with « keep everything as a sidebar ». 1. Certain elements are mutually...

D&D General Drow & Orcs Removed from the Monster Manual

Born Catholic as well, and I don’t remember Asmodeus from the Bible or from Church.

D&D General Drow & Orcs Removed from the Monster Manual

I mean, that’s just incorrect. Are you saying there are no longer any gnomes or elves in D&D because there aren’t elf specific monsters?

D&D 5E (2024) Is anyone at WOTC paying attention to what they print any more?

Where in the book does it states the RAW principle applies?

    D&D 5E (2024) Fireball/Lightning Bolt vs Chromatic Orb?

Fireball also does half damage on a miss. Chromatic orb does not. It seems both spells are competitive .

What about this: « They act with arbitrary violence, spurred by their hatred or bloodlust. »

D&D General Drow & Orcs Removed from the Monster Manual

« Orcs survive through savagery and force of numbers. Theirs is a life that has no place for weakness, and every warrior must be strong enough to take what is needed by force. Orcs aren’t interested in treaties, trade negotiations or diplomacy. They care only for satisfying their insatiable...

D&D General Drow & Orcs Removed from the Monster Manual

So, would you say that you were: than most humans, because otherwise, you are ignoring a pretty important part of @Levistus's_Leviathan ‘s argument.

D&D General Drow & Orcs Removed from the Monster Manual

You’d rather have a CR 1/2 Orc than a CR 12 Gnome Archmage? It’s your choice, but the Orc isn’t the best choice in combat.

D&D General Drow & Orcs Removed from the Monster Manual

Also worth pointing out that a lot of the D&D adventures would say things like : X is a guard but has darkvision and can cast Fairie Fie once per day, if the guard were a drow.

D&D 5E (2014) How do you handle Insight in your game?

Heh. I was considering yet another alternative. PC: I ask the shifty thief if he was at the docks last night around midnight. DM: He says « naughty word you, pig! I’m not answering any of your questions » PC: I rolled 20 on my insight check. DM: You gather from context cues that the thief does not...

D&D 5E (2014) How do you handle Insight in your game?

If a player felt that my stating « you are pretty sure he is lying » overstepped on his exercise of his character’s agency, I would definitely accommodate them. Absent any indication to the contrary, this seems like a distinction without a difference. Either way, that doesn’t seem to be the...

Batman went downhill when they turned him into a vigilante. The 1960s Batman will always be the true Batman.

D&D 5E (2014) How do you handle Insight in your game?

I don’t see much difference between: Scenario 1: PC: I ask the shifty thief if he was at the docks last night around midnight. DM: Roll Insight. PC: 20. DM: He denies it, but you are pretty sure he’s lying. And: Scenario 2: PC: I ask the shifty thief if he was at the docks last night around...

Are Orcs in the Monster Manual? No and Yes.

Ah, the old « I disagree with this change so it can’t be popular ». Any basis to this opinion?

Are Orcs in the Monster Manual? No and Yes.

It seems like many of the people who are complaining the loudest about the change WERE alive when the orcs of Thar was in print.

D&D 5E (2014) How do you handle monster knowledges in your game?

As a sidenote, even if it a unique monster no one has ever seen before, sometimes a character can gain information just by observation.

D&D 5E (2014) How do you handle monster knowledges in your game?

Not sure I understand. Presumably, the characters don’t know anything about the creature, which is why they ask for the check. If they roll high, they get more information. That seems a pretty standard way of operating. The only difference is the players choose what kind of information their...

D&D 5E (2014) How do you handle monster knowledges in your game?

If players get wrong information on a success, they are unlikely to use the feature. A feature that isn’t used is pretty uninteresting.
