[UPDATED] Here's Mike Mearls' New D&D 5E Initiative System

I'm trying to understand this. 1) Everyone decides what they're doing and rolls appropriate dice to determine initiative. 2) Sort out what order everyone goes it. 3) Play it out. 4) Go back to #1 if there are still baddies. Is that right?

    D&D 5E (2014) Mike Mearls' AMA Summary

The discussion of Initiative, Action, and Bonus Action are the most interesting. I think the things that they're dissatisfied with from the core mechanics are the best indication we can have with how things will go for whatever comes later. Maybe some come up as optional rules - like...

Mike Mearls' D&D AMA Summary: Rangers, Initiative, WotC Staff Levels, Fave Pizza

The discussion of Initiative, Action, and Bonus Action are the most interesting. I think the things that they're dissatisfied with from the core mechanics are the best indication we can have with how things will go for whatever comes later. Maybe some come up as optional rules - like...

"Dust" and "Midway" - Codenames for Upcoming D&D Hardcovers

Is that some sort of sacred cow? If it were, is there any reason to believe that Mearls an Co. wouldn't violate it?

The New D&D Adventure Storyline Will Be Announced On June 2nd-3rd

So if it's single locations - then is it place names? Is it subtractive qualities - like Greyhawk would *NEVER* have Tieflings or Dragonborn? Is it just a indefinable je ne sais quoi?

The New D&D Adventure Storyline Will Be Announced On June 2nd-3rd

Question for all the grognards - is there an adventure that is a real Greyhawk adventure - something that just spans a whole bunch of areas of Greyhawk?

"Dust" and "Midway" - Codenames for Upcoming D&D Hardcovers

It shouldn't be too hard to follow CoS as a template. They include an introductory adventure like Death House designed to get characters up 3rd level in order to make it survivable. Then they have a plot hook to bring them into weird elemental effect - let's say it's in Anauroch - and they get...

Way to play the straight man.

"Dust" and "Midway" - Codenames for Upcoming D&D Hardcovers

So should I give up hope for a Ravenloft adventure then? I think, if you look at what's been said by Mearls & Co., there's a list of just a few settings that seem like they could get attention this edition: Forgotten Realms Ravenloft Eberron Dark Sun Planescape Greyhawk Dragonlance Two of...

    D&D 5E (2014) Going for 3d6 instead of d20

I would be really interested in seeing a riff on the Rogues "Reliable Talent". I just don't know the math to really do it. Maybe have the minimum roll for anything be your level - up to 5, 10 for proficiencies, and 15 for expert talents. I think it would apply to ability checks. I think...

The New D&D Adventure Storyline Will Be Announced On June 2nd-3rd

Yep. If we really wanted to do that, it would be best to do it in a new thread.

The New D&D Adventure Storyline Will Be Announced On June 2nd-3rd

What would you do with a 6e anyway? Rewrite for clarity? Class adjustment? Ooh - Group Classes/Subclasses/Races/Feats/Multiclassing into tiers to make it easy for a DM to define the type of game they'd like to run. More DM options for different types of mini-games like chases? The core game...

D&D 5E (2014) How to bring back Dungeon Magazine and Dragon Magazine - Crate Edition

My big hope with it would be that it would be less of a house organ than the current incarnation.

D&D 5E (2014) How to bring back Dungeon Magazine and Dragon Magazine - Crate Edition

With Hasbro getting into the 'Crate' business I've been thinking about this. What types of thinks would need to be in a $50 crate each month to make it worth it? DM Crate (quarterly): (Value) New issue of Dungeon Magazine...

    D&D 5E (2014) WotC & Novels

I think the dropping of the novel line goes hand in hand with loosening up canon and making the timeline way less rigid. I think that if movies get made we'll see the novels return, but the goal of the books will be to support other lines and will be released in a very measured way.

D&D 5E (2014) Mike Mearls interview - states that they may be getting off of the 2 AP/year train.

All that I know is that every time I play an old D&D CRPG, I have to look up THAC0 and right it in my head. I've never had that problem with 3.0 onward. Roll a d20, add your modifiers (whatever those happen to be) and meet or beat the challenge rating is intuitive, and all that has to be...

    D&D 5E (2014) New ORR Group numbers - 5e at 49.10%

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana: Feats for Races

I'm a big proponent of the idea that the customization options are the enemy of combat balance. They definitely need to there to be categorization of feats when they add them to official sources. I'd also prefer that the PHG have a paragraph on the first page of Chapter 6 (2nd paragraph) that...
