D&D 5E (2014) Light release schedule: More harm than good?

It would be pretty easy to define anything past the basic high fantasy setting to be bloat. Hell, anything past Forgotten Realms as bloat. I'm not arguing that. I would argue that setting up sub brands for some of the other settings down the road with their own PHB, MM, and DMG would be an...

D&D 5E (2014) Light release schedule: More harm than good?

Maybe they should split some of the other settings into differently brandings. It's still D&D, but here it's D&D Eberron. Here it's D&D Planescape. Here it's D&D Dragonlance. I wonder if that would be considered more bloat or less bloat, or if the different brandings would seem as bloat in...

D&D 5E (2014) so... any word on PDFs yet?

I think it's driven by Hasbro/WoTC. They probably see FLGS as key to growing the TTG part of the brand back into what it was. The physical product and the local game store to play it at are a neat little ecosystem that they want to encourage. Selling the same product as digital probably is...

D&D 5E (2014) so... any word on PDFs yet?

This is what a lot of people forget. To Hasbro, D&D is only really worth it's brand recognition. Anything they do with it is long game to grow the brand.

Learn about D&D organized play options

Are the DDEN adventures the same as the HoTDQ and TRoT, or are they adapted from to fit 2 hour slots? I've been trying to figure out all of this, and am finding all the different bits (and the naming scheme - 3 'E' words!) to not be as straightforward as I had hoped. I thought that I had had...

D&D 5E (2014) so... any word on PDFs yet?

I suspect that the Adventure Paths will go PDF at a certain age, but the core books are likely to stay hardback. Maybe we see HotDQ and TRoT later this year once PoTA is out.

    Greg Tito Is UHURA!

My current understanding of gamersgate is that it went like this: Basic Situation: Teenage boys who were into video games and afraid of women started sending women in the games industry rape threats, and then managed to at the same time claim that the women in question were having sex with...

I'm interested in this as well as I'm trying to put together an after work group for PotA.

Do you plan to stop reading en world/take it out of your RSS aggregator? I only started reading the forums after I started following the site for news items.

D&D 5E (2014) Mike Mearls explaining his view of D&D and how it should be merchandize

Of course most of the energy goes into the sequel, but let's say that one effect of a successful movie would be $1,000,000 per year of additional funding for the TTG and $50,000,000 per year spent on making more movies. A small amount of money would go a long way for the TTG. Of course I'm...

D&D 5E (2014) Mike Mearls explaining his view of D&D and how it should be merchandize

There's some inference on my part. I don't know that they're making money on D&D as a brand right now. My impression is that they're break even right now on the brand. Some years are good. Some years are not. My assumption, given that they're trying to regain the film rights to the brand...

D&D 5E (2014) Mike Mearls explaining his view of D&D and how it should be merchandize

I don't think D&D shirts is the idea. I think the idea is an evergreen product *and* leveraging the brand recognition so that they can do movies. If the movies are successes, then the brand is strengthened. More money goes into supporting the tabletop game.

D&D Adventurers League Open Call for Designers

I don't think the OGL is coming back for 5e. I think a 5e compatible logo is the best that's going to happen. If WotC continues to believe that the Wall of Books is a problem, and I think it is, I think they're going to do as little as possible to encourage it. I also wouldn't be surprised...

I like this very much. Hopefully they're working up a way to do something like dungeon mag again. Something very community inclusive. Something that will scratch the "light release schedule" itch.

D&D 5E (2014) Kickstart Dragon Magazine or any other rpg type magazine?

Kickstarter would be an interesting way to go about it. I like the kickstart each year idea. Lots of people sell PDFs online. Use them as a resource. If I were to do it, I'd start by talking to all the guys who freelance and get some of them to commit to a 16 page adventure for a...

    D&D 5E (2014) WotC posts new D&D producer position

This deserves its own thread. Looks like they cut out a couple of positions to restructure the team.
