D&D 5E (2014) WotC Confirms Horror-themed Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden

Do any of the experts here think this feels like a remix of any particular older module(s)? Examples of what we've seen in the past: PotA - ToEE OotA - Drow Trilogy CoS - Ravenloft SKT - Against the Giants and something else I haven't identified ToA - The Lost City, Tomb of Horrors, and I...

    D&D 5E (2014) WotC's Jeremy Crawford on D&D Races Going Forward

Except, for you know, how you can tell which elves are evil because of their dark skin.

    OSR Differential Characteristics of OSR/TSR D&D versus WotC/Paizo D&D

I haven't played extensively outside of 5e, but I'm fascinated by the TSR years and what the game was like before 3e. I think part of this is that I'm enamored with low level play and dungeon crawls which seem to be what the early part of the TSR years were about. That said, in the reading...

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D 5.5e; Your wish for 5.5e update.

I see 5.5e or 5.1e or whatever as mostly a chapter 2-6 reworking. This is probably going to be a 2e vs 1e thing. 5e has been successful enough that they'll want to keep the math the same. I would like to see more modularity built into the PHB as well as tagging. For instance, one could set...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 6th edition - What do you want to see?

It is in many cases, but there are a bunch of examples of 'take 1 level of rogue to get x more proficiencies.' things that I feels should be discouraged. I'm very tired of 'DPR' being a character concept.

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 6th edition - What do you want to see?

My thought on this is similar. Two classes at most and then a rule that if you have two classes, when levelling you must level the class in which you have the fewest levels. It prevents dipping and approximates the older multiclassing strategies.

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 6th edition - What do you want to see?

Anecdotally, I've never been at a table that says no to multiclassing or feats. But anecdotes 'eh?

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 6th edition - What do you want to see?

The core rules are great. I wouldn't do much more to them than restate them and reorganize them slightly. I'd turn feats and multiclassing off by default. Make them very distinctly an optional rule to the point of having them not available or restricted in AL play. I'd also work in more...

Speculating on the Future of D&D

That's what it is in my head. I'll have to reference chainmail, od&d, and the Greyhawk supplement to tell you for certain. Given that ad&d and basic d&d both branched off of that it seems like it should be correct. EDIT: I checked. Class and race were separate in OD&D. Non-human characters...

Speculating on the Future of D&D

This might be a truth. I think my thoughts on this are that while AD&D (1/2), 3, and 4 are a chain of systems that have variously supported Greyhawk in some way shape or form, that Greyhawk (and Mystara) feel like they really have their roots in OD&D and the various BECMI D&D sets from over the...

Speculating on the Future of D&D

I feel like with Greyhawk, less is more. Can you have dragonborn and teiflings in Greyhawk? Sure. Should you? Probably not. I feel like getting into Greyhawk should be a exercise in reduction. I feel like Greyhawk would be 7 new classes and the idea of class as race brought back. Keep the...

Speculating on the Future of D&D

I would like to see Greyhawk, but as it's own RPG product. Use modern mechanics, but the even flatter math, character progression, and turn structure of BECMI. Make it something between DCC and LotFP. Call it D&D Classic maybe. Co-opt Joseph Goodman. Have a whole bunch of optional rules in...

    D&D 5E (2024) 6e? Why?

I really just see it as a way they could do more printed level 1-4 adventures and more art boxes. If they were to do an art box a year with a new adventure exclusive to that art box for the duration of the year, I'd buy a new art box every year. Both something cool for the shelf, and a new...

    D&D 5E (2024) 6e? Why?

I'm not sure the difference between what you're talking about and what's in the starter set already. There's an adventure that's the equivalent of 4 modules. 1) Ambushed by goblins and investigate their cave - brings you to level 2 2) Do quests within the town - brings you to level 3 3) Do...

    D&D 5E (2024) 6e? Why?

Totally would love to see new starter sets. Like yearly. I'd love to see a 2018 starter set with a new adventure that's 1-4. LMoP is amazing, but I think it would be easy to rotate it and include a new adventure and new box art. That could be done every year. I can't see reason for a 6th...

Two New Settings For D&D This Year

Until this point, everyone doing CCC modules had to stick to the Moonsea Reigon. Now Baldman has exclusive access to write AL legal mods in the Moonshae Isles and GameHole has exclusive permission to write AL legal mods in the Border Kingdoms. Some people feel that that's unfair.
